WEDNESDAY 17 MARCH 1971

St. Patrick's Day 76th day - 289 days to come

Felicia called. Because of a friend's death she won't be at the office for her meeting with Al Richter this afternoon, and she didn't have his number at home. Told her I'd call and set up another appoint- ment, for sometime next week.
Called and spoke to Mrs. Richter. She'll have Al call me tonight. Gave her the opportunity of backing out of the date Saturday. She didn't want to.

Called Mike Alber to check on his visit tomorrow. He'll be here at 2. Asked if I had rcd. MASTERPIECE yet and I said no. He'll bring it and SCAN. He asked if there are other I don't have and I said CAPER and SMESS, altho I wasn't too interested in the latter. He asked if I had played the latter and I admitted that I hadn't. He said it was the "sleeper" of last year.

Rcd. a long distance call from H.A. Cartwright, who sent me THE FIVE WORD GAMES (see 1970). I apologized for not writing to him, but explained that, because of my opera- tion, I didn't get a chance to play it yet. I did say that in reading it I didn't think it was a good as his WORD SOLITAIRE. He asked if I'd be willing to try to sell it for him, for 1/3. I told him that I didn't agent, and that my own agent specifically has given up on word games. I asked if he would like my opinion of the game when I get a chance to try it. Yes.

Al Richter called while I was out and I called him back. He'll go to Felicia next Tuesday at 2.

When he left he said that the visit had been very informa- tive and interesting. I don't know exactly what he came for. Another point. I told him how nice Parker had been in letting me use the archives. I also brought up that no one there seemed to know what was in them. He believes they use them if they feel that something they are considering may have been done before.

Tom Atwater called. He asked about my meeting with Mary Hilt and I told him about the problem with clause 6 of the contract. He agreed with me that I shouldn't sign. He had wanted to
