THURSDAY 21 JANUARY 1971
Stonewall Jackson, Born 1824 21st day - 344 days to come
To Radio City to tape a Maryknoll Storytime program for broadcast on 2/7 at 8:45 A.M. Discussed MANCALA a little with Father Sauci. I enjoyed it but didn't get much opportunity to say anything.
To Felicia's. She had a letter from Bob Edwards.
WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU? is coming back. The test panel
reports were only mediocre. Felicia rcd. a mailing en-
velope, but it was empty - although sealed.
He is looking forward to seeing LIVE WIRE.
He also wrote "Hope to have some big news for you next
month regarding our plans."
[Drawing on left side of page has a checkered pattern with diagonal rows in decreasing lengths (creating an uneven rectangular shape). Two main diagonal rows are colored red; some spaces are colored in; and some spaces on each side have circles, one side colored in.]
Rael Cowan was there with his game, ZEC. It is played
on a board as shown. Each player has 7 pcs. started as
shown. Pcs. move diagonally,
forwards or backwards, one space
(across an edge). Captures are
by a short jump and can be
continuous.
Pcs. get a crown when they
reach one of the five op-
posite spaces. A crowned pc.,
in addition to it's regular
move, can move horizontally or
vertically as many spaces as desired. It captures
but only in immediately adjacent, horizontally or vertically,
spaces. It can also make jumping captures, diagonal, if in position,
or combinations of both types.
All pcs. can jump over friendly pcs., before, after, or
both, or without, a capture. The friendly pcs., of course,
are not removed. Crowned pcs., however, cannot be jumped
by friendly pcs.
Pcs. in the 4 spaces colored darker red cannot be moved
until one pc., either friendly or enemy, has been crowned.
When the number of pcs. has been reduced to no
more than 3 of one player's and 2 of the other's,
another rule is introduced. Crowned pcs. can move along
one of the shaded diagonals to capture. This can be at
a distance or adjacent (which could also jump). When this
type of replacement capture is made, no further moves can
be made.
When a player is in position to make a capture, his
opponent can put him on notice. If, after being put on
notice, the capture is still available on the player's next
turn, it must be made.
Black spaces cannot be entered or passed over.
