Rcd. a letter from Bill Caruson and also a copy of the "Bluffer's Guide to Wine". He doesn't see how it can be made into an interesting game. If I want to try it is completely on speculation that I can come up with something they, 3M, will like.
Rcd. a set of cards for SLEUTH from Jim Kraus.
Rcd. three copies of the PROFIT Contract. Brought them to Felicia for signing.
At "F.A.O. Schwartz" saw FORTUNA (Triang). It is a combination board featuring fortune telling with cards, and a few simple games.
Also saw SPORTS ILLUSTRATED PRO FOOTBALL again. Looked at it a little. Both offense and defense have charts which are read against dice throws. Then these results, plus another dice throw are applied to yet another chart. (Very rough idea).
At French Book Store bought LE CODE DES JEUX par "Claude Aveline."
At "Brentanos" saw the "Decon" games again (See 12/1).
KONO was said to be called O-PAT-KO-NO in Korea. Checked in "Culin" and found it (pg. 102).
CORNERED is played on a board as shown. [diagram to right of text] The black player moves one space along a line but may not move backwards (I am pretty sure that sideways is O.K.). White can move in any direction. (Who moves first?) Black wins by hemming white, white by escaping. There are no captures.
Looked at ZONAL CHESS, since Henry did not send me the rules yet. The board is as shown. [diagram to left of text] The Standard field is set up as in the regular game. Each player has two additional pawns starting as shown.
In the standard field all moves are as usual.
The 4 shaded spaces are "neutral" and a pc. reaching one must stop there until the next move.
A rook, bishop, or queen in a zone may make as many turns as it wishes.
