8/30 MONDAY 31 AUGUST 1970 243rd day - 122 days to come

To "Hallmark." Most of week children with their mother or children alone were my most frequent visitors. BAZAAR turned out to be the most appropriate under the circumstances. It was quite popular and several women said they were going to buy it. They also said that they probably wouldn't buy it from the description on the box. During week I got some ideas for a more skillful version. When a player buys a card he puts back all his chips so that a player isn't able to get a fast start on the next card by having a lot of chips left over. A player may not buy a card after shaking the die, but only after a trade. For a still more advanced game a player can only shake when he has no chip(s) that he can trade. ODD OR EVEN was also popular. I played several games of TEMPO and one each of INTERPLAY, MONAD, and VENTURE during the week. Also did considerable explaining of ACQUIRE, VENTURE, and MONAD without actually playing. Never got around to TAM-BIT and TAKE-FIVE. Also played a number of games of FOCUS.

Bob Edwards stopped by. In town for a short and busy visit. Their present plans, although nothing is definite as yet, is to come out with the puzzle-games, such as WINDOW PAINS and RIGHT CONNECTIONS, first, in connection with "Spring- bok." They hope to have them ready for "Stationery Show" next spring or, failing that, in time for X-Mas 1971. The next project would be card games with PE-LING and DIGIT included here. The former looks particularly good to them, but rather difficult. I said that it can be played at different levels depending on the ability of the players. The third project would be regular games like RED LETTER. At present they want to see puzzles, even without games. The more difficult the better. I told him that I would get FITTING & PROPER to them as soon as possible, but that I didn't want it tied up for 2 years. He said that things would certainly happen before then. He is interested in seeing it since Felicia has been talking about it. SPELLBINDER was returned because it was just too slow- moving.

Felicia stopped by a moment (before Bob Edwards).

Anthony Dickens stopped by and then returned at 4 when I knocked off. Went for a bite to eat together and then to "Brentanos" where he was looking for 3-D CHESS. Met Bob Edwards there. Anthony left and I looked around a little. Nothing new. Had my 3M games, except ACQUIRE. Had at (cont. on 8/30)
