FRIDAY 21 AUGUST 1970 233rd day - 132 days to come

Felicia called. Someone (she never told me who) at X said they they would be paying my expenses to Kansas City, to talk to Dr. Jacobs, a vice-president, about the game program. TANGLED WEB is being returned. "No challenge. Once you've done it, you've had it." GENIUS BLOCKS are being returned. "Only #1 was any challenge, and that took only 20 minutes." They are sending option contracts for ANOTHER, DIGIT, CUBITS, and in about 3 weeks for WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU? They think that PE-LING could be another BRIDGE but they want to do a lot more testing before deciding. SPELLBINDER being returned. No reason given. It looks good for CODE BREAKING GAME, COUNTER INTELLIGENCE, MAKE A PUZZLE GAME.

[to the right, diagram of 19 hexagons in honeycomb formation, some labeled with "A," "B," or "C" on sides.] Thinking of a variation of BITS AND PIECES (see 8/13). There are 6 plastic overlays similar to that shown. Each has 1 each of the segments marked A, B, and C. The 6 are fasten together so that they can be rotated. Object is to form all 19 hexes. Possible name - THE 19TH HEX.

Another PUZZLE idea. Have a series of pieces of some shape to be determine which are put together to form a square. They are colored so that a grid of colors is formed. A second series of pieces each has a hole in the center of each square in the grid. These are put together so that the color showing thru the hole matches the color above.

Rcd. a letter from Ed Tucker. My guess on the PATTERNS 2 game was correct. He would like me to send some more patterns for the machine to solve.

4 copies of FOCUS came from Whitman. 3 copies each of TEMPO, INTERPLAY, and ODD OR EVEN came.

In Chinatown bought another CHINESE CHESS set, with plastic pcs. Also found a box for sending AIRLINE to "Stancraft," with Chinese writing on the cover.
