WEDNESDAY 5 AUGUST 1970
217th day - 148 days to come
Called Fabio about the deduction for Author Alterations
on AGOG. He'll check and call me back. Called again
about 2:30 and spoke to Fay. She is working on it and
will let me know as soon as she gets it settled.
Also spoke to a girl in publicity who had her boss,
Mrs. Selma Shapiro, call me back. She'll look into getting
a flyer prepared for AGOG and also will get me 3 or
4 copies to have on hand. Will call me.
Deposit the 3M check at "United Mutual Bank."
Rcd. a letter from Jim Kraus:- Thanked me for my
suggestions on OCTRIX.
The shortened "Search Deck" will probably do it for
SEARCH. "You will receive our contract shortly, and I am
sure you will be pleased."
PROFIT. "Good evaluations."
Martin Gardner called before I got home and I called
back, having considerable trouble due to a
problem with his phone.
He is working on a new book of columns from
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN and this one will include FOCUS. I will
have until the end of the year to tell him of any
changes I want. He has already incorporated the material
on the symmetrical draw. He will mention AGOG and the
Whitman edition of FOCUS.
This new book will not be put out by "Simon & Shuster."
He doesn't like the junk they have been putting out lately
and the way they handle his books. It will be put
out by "W.H. Freeman", which is a subsidiary of "Scientific
American."
I asked and learned that Martin uses all the columns
except the "Dr. Matrix" which he put in a separate book.
Sometimes the publisher rearranges the order.
In New England Martin picked up a game called TELBAX.
It was patented around 1914 and consists of 18 DOMINOS
cards. On the back is a red cross. The crosses are
graduated in size so that if you can place the size
you can tell which domino it is. (He paid $.50 for
it and is mailing it to me.)
I told him of my leaving engineering.
Claude called earlier and I told him of the good outcome
on the EXECUTIVE DECISION contract.
Read the rules for "Avalon-Hill's" THE STOCK MARKET GAME.
