MONDAY 20 JULY 1970

201st day - 164 days to come

Thought of adding a non-capturing short jump over an opponent to the game of INDIAN CHESS, to eliminate the impasse at the center towards the beginning of the game. Tried it with BB and it made the game too loose. Then changed it to allowing only a forward jump. This seemed to do the job with a minimal disruption of Mr. Wei's original game. Also tried it with Dale's Phil and it worked out well. (Now I feel I've earned my 25%)

Called Jerry Goldstein. He said that the game program- TAM-BIT, TAKE FIVE, etc. is definitely not dead. The salesmen are just starting on a selling trip that should get it moving. Told him of the "Hallmark" exhibit and ar- ranged to pick up four copies of each of my two games.

The game MERGERS came. It was a disappointment; less chance for skill than in MONOPOLY.

Claude called. The company that put out his puzzles, he learned, has been sending royalties to "Oggi" who haven't sent him anything. He wants to get after "Oggi," but wants to finish his QUEEN'S PUZZLE variant first.

Rcd. the answers to my last requests at PATTERNS II by Ed Tucker.

To "F.A.O. Schwartz," bought MONACO GRAND PRIX (Triang), marked down to $3.45.
Saw ROLAIRE again, marked down to $6.00 but didn't buy it. There are various colored balls, in different amounts, which are rolled down passed obstacles. Players bet on the colors of the first 3 balls, using a felt layout.
Looked in "Riis Brothers." Nothing new.
Looked for GO stones in the place on 59th St. and also at the two Azuma stores. No separate ones available.
Looked at Brentano's. Nothing new. They have ACQUIRE now and I didn't see any AGOG this time.

Rcd. a letter from an AGOG reader who wants to know where she can get out of print books on card games and children's games. Also specifically THE FIRESIDE BOOK OF CARDS.

Called Jack Davis and spoke to Audrey Pierce. (Jack was on a- nother line at about 5 P.M.) Told her of GRIT interview. (Marvin Katz was in touch with them.) And about the Hall- mark exhibit." She will get 3 copies of each of my games for use in my demonstrations.

In afternoon I also went to "Abercrombie & Fitch."
