198th day - 167 days to come

Called Jack Davis. He sent a complete set of the 7 Gamette's to my office: MONAD, VENTURE, HIGH BID, TRYCE, OCTRIX, SUM-UP and FOIL. He also sent a copy of the colored cat- alog. It has VENTURE on the back cover.
I asked him if he had heard about a new packaging for BAZAAR. No, & the catalog shows the original one.
He mentioned an artist he knows who works for "Hallmark" and who told him of "M.B.'s" getting there at the last minute, after goofing things up.
I'll call Jack Wednesday with a report on the interview and press conference.

Called "Renwal". Donahue out for day. Goldstein at plant and I asked the secretery to have him call me. He didn't.

Called Felicia. Out till Tuesday. Left message that I couldn't make it Tuesday.

Ran off more prints of the record sheet.

Decided to change the name COUNTERPOINT to TRANSFORMATION.

Thinking of ideas for SEARCH. A player can make use of a "Free Choice" whenever he wishes on his turn but must choose a card after using it.
Put in an optional rule that players can play for 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Claude called and I met him after work and had supper with him.
He bought a roll of 1/16" black tape at Mayer's for 70¢. They also have red, white, and clear.
He told me about his idea for a puzzle, RHAPSODY. It is another variation of THE QUEEN'S PUZZLE. Use an 8x8 board and 8 squares of one color, 7 of another, and 3 of a third. They are chosen at random and played one a time on the board so that no two of the same color are in line. Didn't think that this was as good as some of his others.
I started thinking of a PUZZLE where different rules about which colors must, may, or must not adjoin each other cre- ate an infinite number of puzzles. Possibly use a 6x6 board with colors distributed 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. (Germ of an idea.)
Gave Claude the QUEEN'S PUZZLE info reproduced from Lucas' RECREATIONS MATHEMATIQUES. Also the repro of Boyer's LES JEUX D'ECHECS NON ORTHODOXES.
Looked for GO stones on 8th St. Could only find a porcel- in set for $9.95.
Looked in "Brentano's." Saw the TROLLEY GAME but the
