SATURDAY 4 JULY 1970
Independence Day
185th day - 180 days to come
Worked out the following arrangement for TANGLED WEB.
[Here Sid has drawn several detailed diagrams of TANGLED WEB]
Showed puzzle to BB, Dale & Phil. They couldn't solve it and
found it interesting.
Called Claude to tell him I had the reproductions of the
Queen's PUZZLE from RECREATIONS MATHEMATIQUES. Also that I
had a copy of LES JEUX D'ECHECS NON ORTHODOXES for him. We're
both pretty sure I gave him a copy of NOUVEAUX JEUX D'ECHECS NON ORTHODOXES.
He is thinking of doing the Queen's PUZZLE using about 12 to 16
overlays each one having a Queen in different positions with the
rays radiating from each. These are shuffled and played on an 8 x 8
grid one by one, rotated as the player wishes. Object to get as
many as possible. Claude asked if I thought it was too much
like WINDOW PANES. Of course not.
Told Claude of Arthur & Wald's vacation. he'll get in touch with them.
Played OCTRIX with Phil, Dale, & BB. Each man for himself was bad; very little chance for planning. The partnership game, however,
seemed quite good. BB and I played 2 - hand and that was also
good. Playing the same cards twice, as in MATE, would probably
be an excellent idea.
