5/20 FRIDAY 22 MAY Ember Day 1970 142nd day - 223 days to come
Called Barry Nathan (see 5/18). He is a publisher and is interested in putting out a replica of THE YOUNG FOLKS' CYCLOPEDIA OF GAMES AND SPORTS. He will contact me about getting together when I get back from Europe.
To Felicia with DIGIT, DATA, and the rules for MATCHED SET. She had already packaged the latter and we let it go out as MARLBORO COUNTRY. Since the box with all the things she was sending to X was so big I went with her in the taxi to the post of- fice. On the way she told me that the big company (Y) that is moving into games is Time Inc. and James Schisgall is a front for them. She gave me a big build- up to him and said that they have to have at least one of my games in their line. The big box was too big for parcel post. She mailed the smaller one and I helped her into another cab where she went to a REA office.
Called Mickie Mackay. Not in. Got a return call from her office later, but secretary had given message to wrong person.
Made repros of the TRIAD rules to [crossed out]. change for PE-LING.
After work to { Harry Lorayne's house at [address] 989-5694 (PUF BELCH BAR) He did a lot of talking. An idea for a GAME he had was to have a lot of cards. Part of these are dealt into a layout. The players have time to study them and then they are all flipped at once. Players try to remember the cards and score for success. Some cards have different colors which makes them score more. From this I got the idea of using a good number of cards, about 12" square which are laid out in a 6 x 6 (say) layout. Some have pictures on them but most have win- dow panes. A series of these cards piled one on top of the other until no holes are left will give a wide assortment of picture layouts. On top of this place another card which has flaps that can be opened over each picture. (I think I can work something out from this.)
Rcd. a letter from A.W. Macintyre thanking me for my sug- gestions on ASSASSIN. He is working on another game, PARADOX!. The letter is written on back of a circular for The FEUDAL Fantatics.
Rcd. a letter Frank Armbruster. Having financial difficulties and can't make it N.Y. for "Stationery Show." A friend (cont. on 5/20)
