TUESDAY 3 FEBRUARY 1970 34th day - 331 days to come
X-RAY CHESS. All CHESS rules apply with these additions: NATURE OF X-RAY --- When an enemy man is x-rayed, nothing is moved except the removal of the x-rayed unit. One x-ray constitutes a move. When a player's King comes into X-Raynge, it is in check and must be defended ac- cordingly. QUEEN, ROOK, BISHOP --- These men can X-Ray an opponent's man from a distance of up to 4 squares; and its range is decreased one square for each man the rays must penetrate. (Either friend or foe) KING --- The King can X-Ray one or 2 squares in any direction; but not with interference. PAWN --- A diagonal X-Ray forward 1 or 2 squares, again only without inter- ference. KNIGHT --- The Knight can x-Ray where it captures and one square diagon- ally beyond in this manner:

(Copied this from Phil Cohen's letter so that I could return it.
Also copied the rules of VIEWPOINT on an 8 x 5 card.)
After this copying started a letter to Phil Cohen.
Put backs on the PE-LING cards.
Felicia called. She had the 1969 - 4th quarter statement from 3M. Not bad.
Arthur called. On 1/30 when he showed me VEROQ I sug- gested playing the 2-hand version with the 4 cards exposted and each player keeping his cards as played. After scoring, the hands are reversed and replayed. Winner is the one who scores higher. Arthur tried it and thought it was great. I suggested that he try MATE.
Started copying the index in the 1969 diary.
