TUESDAY 21 DECEMBER
St. Thomas, Apostle
Pilgrims Landed 1620 1971 355th day - 10 days to come
Rcd. X'Mas card from Phil Orbanes. Also, in separate cover, a yearend report on Infinity-Quest.
Called Bob Hallowell asked him if he wanted the solution for HABITAT and the rules and solutions for HONORABLE RELATIONS. No; he is just pricing HABITAT in a compact package - not assembled; and he doesn't want to handle HONORABLE RELATIONS. Told him that Phil wanted to show it to Bill Knox after he, Bob, refused it. Bob will give it to Phil when they get together.
Bob thinks that HABITAT will cost out at $6. The same for FUN CITY. He expects to have a model of the latter to show me soon.
Told Bob that I have been thinking about pencil & paper games (and that I rcd. BATTLESHIP from Jean). After the 1st of the year I'll call him and arrange a meeting to go into the GAMEs.
Call from Felicia. Tom Abrahamsen in her office; a mistake in the days again. She thought I would like to see his games and meet him.
Took subway to her office, reading YOUR MOVE on the way.
Met Tom Abrahamsen who invented RSVP, not RPM as Felicia had first thought.
He had a game, VIEWPOINT, which he had made up as a companion to RSVP, for play by up to 4 players.
[Figure of rectangle split into four triangles, to right of page.]
The pieces are shallow pyramids (as shown) with the letters printed facing the 4 directions, and with a peg for handling. Play is similar to RSVP he said but I didn't get the details.
He had a three person game - TRIAD - which we played. It has cute equipment but the game is not great.
Another game - AVARICE - he showed us but we didn't play.
Felicia will handle TRIAD and AVARICE, but not VIEWPOINT, since she doesn't think there is a market for word games now. She had extra sets of rules which I took to reproduce and return to her.
He had something called "Psychelight" which is a little flashlight mounted similar to the center of a horn rim on a steering wheel. There are three cables mounted at third points along the rim with springs to keep them taut. The cables are handled by three "players" who move the light into various cooperative patterns.
He has a game VICE & VIRTUE and another DEMOCRACY (it seems to be a critical view) in process. Felicia would like to see them, with Dynamic Design in mind.
Incidentally, I mentioned that I copyrighted a card game called TRIAD.
