FRIDAY 3 DECEMBER 1971
St. Francis Xavier
337th day - 28 days to come
Rcd. a letter from Lester Gendron asking whether I would
rewrite the rules for LAWSUIT and, if so, what would be my
price.
Rcd., from Simulations Publ. Inc., a request for the SLEUTH logical
steps, with a stamped envelope.
Rcd. the SOMA ADDICT - Vol. 2, No. 1.
Rcd. a call from Kenneth Heuer, science editor of Charles
Scribner's Sons Publishers. He called me after calling
Martin Gardner. He wanted Martin to read it but
Martin suggested me and gave him my qualifications. I
told him that there might be a conflict of interest because
of AGOG. He said that Martin had told him about it, and
their book is much more general in scope.
The fee for reading the book is $100. If they want me
to do any further work we will negotiate the payment. I agreed
and he'll send the manuscript to me.
I called Martin to thank him. Heuer had just called him today.
He said that he only rcd. 6 copies of his new book.
THE SIXTH BOOK OF MATHEMATICAL DIVERSIONS FROM SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN
and wasn't able to give out any. I asked about his getting
them at wholesale. He can, but didn't seem thrilled with the idea.
He said that he has been getting quite a bit of info on
simulation games to show me.
His column on HALMA is out and he will be doing one on
HACKENBUSH.
Made a date for me to go there Monday in the afternoon.
Felicia called while I was out and told Dale that Brentano's
had an ad in today's WALL STREET JOURNAL for
EXECUTIVE DECISION. Dale had Phil bring it. It was a
good one. ('71 ad clips).
On Allerton Ave. bought 10 cubes with round holes thru all
3 axes, 2 each of 5 colors. ($.20 each.)
Made a box with a transparent top for HABITAT.
Brought HABITAT and HONORABLE RELATIONS to the Laurence's.
Elaine & Phil tried the former, but much too hard. Decided
to supply some kind of hint. //Played BRIDGETTE with Phil.
MARTIN told me that the Science Book Club wouldn't handle
his new book because whenever they have a book with a
number on it they have too many questions about others in the series.
