Thursday 18 November 1971
322nd day - 43 days to come
Rcd. NOST-ALGIA (Nov. '71 - No. 139). Included SCOTTISH CHESS, WORD GOLF, GO, SINKO (A new word game), INTERNATIONAL CHECKERS. Also a list of backnumber copies. I'll probably order some.
Letter from Phil Cohen. Said he was sending his copy of CHALLENGE AND DELIGHT OF CHESSICAL AND DECIMAL for me to Xerox and return to him. He sent me rules of EULER SQUARE which was in NOST-ALGIA (April 1970) as TEN SQUARE. He saw my column in GAMESMAN #6. Only 3M game he ever played was ACQUIRE and he enjoyed it.
Letter from Jerry D'Arcey. Bill Dohrmann kept SKULDUGGERY and FRANCHISE. Jerry said that I knew more about good games than anyone else. Bill agreed and pointed to AGOG on his shelf. Jerry told Bill he didn't think much of MASTERPIECE and Bill agreed.
Bill Dohrmann called Bob Engel (Craftmaster) and set up a meeting for Jerry to show his "Thread Art." Bob liked it and it is now up to the salesmen, etc.
Frank will send me CONTIGO. He rcd. a decent check from 3M.
Letter from Michael Trombetta with a question on ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR I. No mention of my letter to him about SLEUTH.
Letter from Pierre Berloquin. Mentions GAMES AND TOYS, LE MONDE DES AFFAIRES, STRATEGY & TACTICS, ECOPLANY, ELDORADO. Possibility of my games in his series of "book" games. Also BIG FUNERAL. Also T.S.G.'s. Possibility of his company distributing 3M games.
Fixed up my review of SUMMIT for BOOK WORLD. Rewrote NEW TOWN. Worked on CAVEAT EMPTOR all day but couldn't make any progress.
(cont. from 11/19) [12/6]
the info from Phil Orbanes.
Martin went over a folder he had on "Simulation Games." I had most of the info, except that on some computer based war games.
Borrowed two letters with games:-- PINCH and NAMELESS (NL) -- to copy and return. No hurry Martin said.
He gave me another manuscript on "The Sakoda Checkerboard Model for Social Intercourse" which he doesn't want back.
Bob Gellman called while I was out. I called at his home (516-378 1134) and finally he called me back.
Bob Schneider saw something similar to my AIRLINE a year or so ago, possibly not as good. In any case he doesn't want to do it right now.
They haven't signed a contract yet for a travel GAME so they want to look at GO SEE. Since WHITE HOUSE,
(cont. on 11/17)
