FRIDAY 5 NOVEMBER 1971
309th day - 56 days to come
Rcd. a card from Phil Cohen with his new address. He assumed
that I have rcd. DYNAMO SCHACH and Parton's three booklets
If not ask for missing ones. (I'll have to write to say I
don't have CHALLENGE AND DELIGHT OF CHESSICAL & DECIMAL.)
To Brentano's. Dorothy Shapiro said she was mad at me.
Because I had given Henry Levy copies of S & T and not
her. I told her that I didn't think she'd be interested in
war games. Who do you think got the A.H. games in the store, she
said. Promised to bring her copies next Tuesday.
Looked at MOTHER IN LAW. This is played by two or more couples,
but the couples are not playing together, rather are in
competition with each other as well as with the other players.
Players in turn draw a card from a "Nag" pack of their
sex. This is read off with the number of points involved and
the necessary remedy. The remedy consists of the other
member of the couple reaching a certain specified dice
throw of five dice - in one throw; such as 2 5's or higher
or 3 4's or higher, etc.
The member nagged then throws the dice secretly and
then announces that they made the proper throw or that they
missed. The nagger then either accepts the statement
or doubts it. Different numbers of points are won or lost by
the members of the couples depending on bluffing, getting
away with it, getting caught, etc.
Certain cards in the Nag pack send a woman back to mother
or a man back to a bachelor pad. They stay there till they, in turn,
throw a specified throw of the dice. The other member of
their couple in turn draws a card from another deck (for their
sex). Most of these are penalties of points, but a few
large bonuses are included. (Rough idea.)
Herb Siegel was there and I asked him the list price
of WOMAN & MAN. $8.
Looked at TOURNAMENT GOLF (Rigley Banada Corp., P.O. Box 327,
Scottsdale, Arizona, 85252). There is a board with a golf
course (supposed to be a particular course) layed out with
a grid. Play is in the spaces but also on the lines (as shown).
[Diagram showing 9 circles arranged 3 x 3. The outer ones are connected by lines. Beneath this is another small diagram showing 2 squares - each labeled '10 yards'.]
There are about 14 dice representing different
clubs. The six faces have different distances
marked on them. The player chooses one and
"addresses" the ball, that is, says the direction
including diagonal, that he is driving the
ball. He throws the die, together with another die,
this one having the following faces: Hook 20 yds., Hook 40 yds.,
Slice 20 yds., Slice 40yds., Blank, Blank. When on the green
there are "putter" dice depen the one to be used depending
on the distance from the hole at the time. (Rough idea.)
Claude visited me. Got me to open up the cards from a
SLEUTH set to attract attention, but it didn't do much good.
Claude brought me the book CHICAGO BRIDGE.
