SATURDAY 30 OCTOBER 1971
303rd day - 62 days to come
Earl Perel called. A widow he knows has a gadget left to her by her
husband. It averages a seriesof numbers and is inexpensive
to manufacture. Earl is thinking of making up an insurance
GAME using this gadget. He has two cousins who are in
insurance and who could give him info on the inside details. He
asked me what would be a fair share to the widow and to
his cousins. I just couldn't give him an answer on that, but
I did point out that insurance is a topic that psychologically
turns off potential game players, at least in my opion
opinion.
Earl rcd. the letter I sent him, for the Small Business Administration,
and thanked me.
He will ocme here week after next for an afternoon and
evening of game testing for my column in BOOK WORLD.
Read over the rules of SPEED CIRCUIT. Then looked at
GRAND PRIX (which I am almost sure is the same as
A.H.'s LE MANS and FORMULA 1 for comparison.
Looked at MR. PRESIDENT and the one I picked up yesterday
seemed to be the same as the one I had since 1967.
(cont. from 10/31) [11/1]
Told him I had a copy, but checked later and found I didn't.
Claude is still playing around with MANIPULATION. Has a much
shorter path. He is eliminating the big jumps in value, top
to bottom will be a factor of 5 times, maximum. He will
also set it up so that a color stock is high when that color
is in the lead and is low when that color is at the end.
Claude mentioned that he still hadn't heard from Norbert for his
royalty. Then he told me that the original puzzles which
Oggi placed for him have been discontinued. He has another
one called SPIN-MATH, which is similar to GENIUS BLOCKS
in object but different in form.
There is a spinner which chooses a target number.
Then magnets must be placed on 4 number spaces adding
up to the target number. Some have only one combination,
others have several.
[Illegible crossed out]
Told Claude that I owed him over $100 for his share
of EXECUTIVE DECISION. He was impressed. Made a date for
Friday 11/12 to celebrate.
Looked at Bloomingdale's. Not set up for X'Mas yet, but they did
have a good selection of games. A copy of MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
(Sports Illustrated) was open. All the major league teams players
are included. Players choose a team and set a line-up. Play
is based on the various strengths and weaknesses of
