THURSDAY 14 OCTOBER 1971
287th day - 78 days to come
Rcd. one answer to SLEUTH problem.
Wrote the new set of rules for PROFIT.
Started looking at SPELLBINDER and realized that there
was a resemblance between my new rules and what
in 1969 I called SPEED DIGIT. While looking up DIGIT I
discovered that I had no record of the rules as I sent
them to Hallmark; whether I included some changes I had
sent to Jim Kraus in a letter when they were considering
it.
Sent a letter to Violet Gunther telling her that I didn't
want the copies of PIT and SNAP she wrote about.
Also why I was late in answering her.
(cont. from 12/21) [12/21]
there was an article about a GAME that was found
in a "dig". The magazine asked if anyone could reconstruct
the game. Tom thought I might be able to. (I'll have to
get a hold of a copy of the magazine.)
After Tom left Felicia told me that she had seen Dorothy Shapiro
and Dorothy had said that business was fabulous. Felicia
asked specifically about SLEUTH and Dorothy said it was great.
I tried to get more info on Hallmark's plans from Felicia. When
I asked about RED LETTER she didn't say "no" but not quite "yes":
either. DUEL almost certainly will be in the first wave.
Felicia had sent a letter to Samsonite over a week ago. When
she called about Tom's "Psychelight" she learned that the letter
didn't arrive. We walked together to the copy place on Park Ave.
where she made repros of her carbon. I bought a box of 3/4" x 1 1/2"
self stick labels.
To Post Office to mail copies of S & T columns #24, 25, 26, 27, 28, & 29
to Don Laycock. Printed Matter airmail - 90 [cents].
To Childcraft. Bought two copies of an Italian construction set
called JEK, marked down to $1.95 each.
Put together a sample of NINE OF SWORDS they had on display.

The game can be played by 4 as well as by two. There are
4 sets of markers from 0 up to 9. The normal game uses
numbers from 1 to 2 up to from 1 to 9. When 2 play [illegible crossed out]
a square 2 spaces larger than the high number is used.
When 4 play a square 4 spaces larger than the high
number is used. The even side of the board is 12 x 12,
