THURSDAY 2 SEPTEMBER 1971
245th day - 120 days to come
Rcd. a letter from Haar Hoolim. He has been helping Prof. Tauber
with a GAME the latter invented. Mentions UP and several
of his GAME and PUZZLE ideas. Also mentions AGOG, and
VECTOR, and S & T.
Finished my column with Tom Shaw's letter concerning
THE STOCK MARKET GAME and the answer to the SLEUTH problem.
Ken Morgan called, thinking I was leaving for Europe next week.
Research Games seems like it is going into bankruptcy. Ken can
now get MOVIE MOGULS back according to his contract, and doesn't
know quite what to do. He wonders if he should contact Miss
Parker. I advised him that he probably could do as good a
job by himself in placing it with another company and he
could save the agent's fee. He should find it easier to place
since the art work is done and it has shown signs of success.
LOOK Magazine had an offer for 7 Parker games (& puzzles)
for $20. Included are MASTERPIECE, CAREERS, SCAN, and SOMA.
He'll send me the clipping.
Called Fabio with idea of talking about the reprint of AGOG. He
is busy today and Fay will have him call me tomorrow or
next week. As far as she knows negotiations are still proceeding
with Castle.
Fay asked and I told her that I still hadn't rcd. any copies
of AGOG.
Trying out some ideas for a game, tentative name - BEADS.
A board is made up by attaching several segmants
together - see illustration for sample.
[Diagram of a rectangle with small appendages which look to be connectable. Within the rectange there are 10 colored line segments - blue, red, green, orange, and purple.]
Each player has one chip of each color. These are started at one
end of the board and move along the li from
line to line until they reach one in which there is no
line or former chip that is the same color as the
one being moved. (Rough idea to be worked on.)
(cont. from 9/3) [9/3]
but may not go back to the same arrangement as he
had before.
When a player completes a "word" he waits until his
next turn before taking it off, and may if a letter is
available on his next turn simply expand the "word", postponing
removal to the next turn. A "word" scores the square
of its length. The cards are all returned to the table
and there can be duplicate cards on the table. In the
