MONDAY 16 AUGUST 1971
Bennington Battle Day, (Vt.)
228th day - 137 days to come
Felicia called. She wanted my opinion as to whether we should ask
Mary Hilt for dome money for holding FOCUS. I didn't think there
was any chance of getting anything before actual signing of a contract.
She agreed and also brought up that there is no place
else that it can be submitted.
S & R referred an inventor with a presidential election GAME to
her. She didn't want to look at it, being just about impossible to
sell to a manufacturer. I agreed with her decision.
Carol of Everyone Products called and asked for my address so
that she could send me the solution for TORTURE TOWER.
I called Ken Morgan. (He had called last week when I was out and
said he'd call again.) He told me that he saw an ad in the
Sunday TIMES sor S & T. He clipped it and will send it to me.
He saw Dorothy Shapiro at Brentano's. She thinks says that
MOVIE MOGULS is the best selling new game in a long time.
He mentioned me and the fact that I had an operation. She
spoke well of me and was concerned.
Dale called Jim Dunnigan. He asked me about the game PHALANX.
(Whitman) and whether the name was registered. It isn't.
They are coming out with a game PHALANX.
From the feedback, my most popular columns are those in
which I go into detail on a few games. We discussed the problem
of covering all the games I get. I'll have to do something
like the "Books Received" section of the magazine.
The circulation is now up above 3000. The advertisement in
the TIMES just about payed its way. They will spend another
$20,000 this year in ads.
He asked about Bob Reiss' visit to me. I told him that I hadn't
heard anything further on it. He already spoke to Phil about
approaching Bob on a "Games Magazine" and we'll both work
on it when Bob is here.
It is O.K. to bring in my next column the beginning of next week.
Arthur called. Would like to get together. Didn't make a definite
date.
I called Claude. BB & I will go there to play games: LOTTERY
and his SUSPENSE, if he has a new arrangement ready.
Wrote to Phil Cohen about his WELDING CHESS. Told him
about ASSOCIATION CHESS and CAT'S PAW CHESS (mine).
Also asked him for booklet DYNAMO-SCHACH.
Wrote to Harry Lee about KNIGHTS, HAPPY LANDINGS, and STRIKES 'N SPARES.
Wrote to Frank Armbruster about POTENTIAL, PSYCHE - PATHS,
REVERSI, and NUMERICA.
I asked about the DIPLOMACY column in S & T and the idea now
is to run it alternately in the mag. and in the S & T SUPPLEMENT.
