SUNDAY 15 AUGUST 1971
Assumption B. V. Mary
Tenth Sunday after Trinity
227th day - 138 days to come
Made new tokens and identification markers for LOTTERY.
Also made new set of "Traveling" cards.
(cont. from 12/28) [12/28]
in subscribing to S & T. Instead of going downtown he asked
if he could bring me the money. I told him to come over.
While waiting, I called Jim Dunnigan and he told me to
take $11 from him. Also it was O.K. to give him a copy
of #29, which Lowell had asked for. Also made a date for
Jim to come over next Thursday. He invited me to a staff dinner
at "The Steak and Brew" tomorrow. He told me that
starting next year (1971) he and Red would start drawing
a salary of $24,000 a year.
Schechter came over with the money. He gave me his
address and of two friends who would like to receive
any promotional material sent out.

Michael Hayes has privately published a game called
THE WAR LORD. [WARLORD??] It is an abstract war game of a type similar
to RISK. The fighting is done something like this: A player
wishing to invade commits from 1 to 6 armies by secretly
turning over a die. The attacked player guesses the number.
If correct that many are destroyed. If not the other player's
invasion is successful. If he wants to continue his advance
he has to commit a larger number since only those can be
used in further advances. Players receive one new army
for each capital city occupied; a new army for a certain
number of industrial areas; a new army for a greater
number of rural areas, etc. [illegible crossed out]
In attacking if the defender has a high ground or
water protection the opponent is limited to the number of armies,
making it easier to be guessed.
Lowell brought two copies as presents but he'll bring me a
review copy tomorrow and mail one as a present.
He mentioned a naval battle GAME, also privately printed,
which is a real simulation. I suggested he send that to S & T
directly.
