Thursday 5 August 1971
217th day - 148 days to come
Rcd. a letter from Violet I. Gunther offering me copies of
MILLE BORNES and PASSWORD. Wrote telling her I
already have copies.
Rcd. a letter on FANTOCCINI. Answered my questions on the
rules. Asked if I could send them a copy of AGOG.
Rcd. PANZERFAUST (#47, Aug. 1971). It has me as
"Wargamer of the Month," a very nice write up. Has the second half
of the rules for AFRIKA KORPS II.
Felicia called. She spoke to Harvey Gardner and they still
haven't come to a definitive answer. However there is no objection
to the hard cover reprint.
In discussing the matter of an advance she said we'd
accept part upon signing, part on submission of the revised
manufacture, and part upon publication. Harvey didn't realize there would be revisions. Felicia had no idea about what their timing would be.
Felicia was in contact with the manufacturer of NINETY SEVEN. She saw prototypes of two new games: RICOCHET (a gambling type casino game) and HAVOC (a game of luck and skill. They seem to have plenty of money for advertising (Dick Cavett among other places). But Felicia is reluctant to show them things. They are very hard bargainers.
In general companies are staying away from strategy games since they feel that they can't compete with 3M in this field. Also there is a feeling that they have passed their peak. But Henry Levey of Brentano's thinks there is still a demand. .
Whitman still hasn't put out Natelie's FLINGERS, though they paid for it. Felicia asked Bruce if they are really looking; she has two things specially put aside for them. He was silent a long time and then said that they are always looking.
I brought up COUNTERPOINT. Felicia said it was a Marvin Glass item and it bombed.
Felicia is trying to get a meeting set up with M.B. and with Hasbro, but without success. She particularly wants to show Al Richter's kit to the latter.
Cadaco rejected the golf GAME she told me about on 7/28. They had just gotten one. I suggested the company putting out TENNIS ANYONE? It bombed and they are in financial trouble. They have a puzzle, URSALA, which is moderately successful. It is a two-sided jigsaw puzzle with a front and back view of a nude.
Told her about my idea for LOTTERY. She thought it was great. She'd like to show it to Herb Roth for possible acceptance by Dynamic.
THE FAMILY GAME is now taking off. She has a copy for me. She asked me to tell the Amberstones that they need a new frame for POWUR, hinged, before she can submit it again.
Arranged for me to go there, probably next Wednesday, to
bring her WILD WOOD PILE.
