WEDNESDAY 28 JULY 1971
209th day - 156 days to come
Rcd. a letter from Charles Schaeffer thanking me for my comments
on EFFIGY and my offer to review it if they place it.
Rcd. a letter from Tom Atwater with rules for a game called
SYMMETRIC SURROUND, asking if it was original.
Also sent $4.90 as 2nd quarter royalty on TEMPO, INTERPLAY,
and ODD OR EVEN.
Realized that I hadn't specified in my conversation with Martin
yesterday thata player should only be forced to jump over an
enemy piece. He was ready to call me about it.
Called Earl Perel. Asked him not to mention to 3M that I told
him I didn't have a cut off. He said he realized neither
of us could gain from this.
He suggested that I write game reviews for Consumer's Union
and offered to give me the name of the one to contact. Told him
I was too busy now to take on a new project.
Call from Felicia. X-CHANGE-WORD is being returned. Gets too hectic
even when played by 3; they think 4 should be a maximum; but
it is really only for 2 lovers of crossword puzzles, not for others.
When the 6 sets of definitions are used there is no more interest.
One player completed the puzzle with 1 mistake and lost to another
who had 3 blanks, to the disparagement of the panel.
POWUR is also being returned. It is too complicated for their present
needs, but possibly they may ask for it again the future. The
cardboard frame came all out of shape and they used the frame
from RED LETTER is their testing.
We discussed places we might send the two games to:
<u.X-CHANGE-WORD - Stancraft, 3M, but not M.B. I told her.
POWUR - 3M, M.B. She hears there is a new man in charge of the
M.B. adult game profram; the one who headed TAG. (Transogram
Adult Games - a big flop).
Herb Roth's line of games is doing great. WHO CAN BEAT NIXON?
however has fallen off drastically.
Someone brought her a golf GAME with a patentable gadget. It
is simple but realistic. She'll show it to Cadaco.
She sent two PUZZLE's to Hallmark. They are hot on puzzles.
Wrote letters to: Michael Dummett - when we'll be in London
and could he pick up HIGH FINANCE for me. Pierre Berloquin -when
we'll be in Paris and I can bring him GAMES OF THE ORIENT.
NEO Press - about PSYCHE-PATHS and POLY-Y. Frank Armbruster-
about POTENTIAL and PSYCHE PATHS. Warren Buell - thanks
for clippings on ACQUIRE and MONAD.
