FRIDAY 16 JULY 1971
197th day - 168 days to come
Called Fabio. He checked with Mary Lou Thomas and called me
back. She wasn't correct in her letter to me. Fabio said
that it is definitely O.K. with Castle if I also do sign for
a paperback. I should do what is best for me. I promised
to let him know as soon as I hear from Gold Medal.
Wrote to Kathy Brooks with my idea for a 2-player version of
SLEUTH.
To Post Office. Mailed MEM to Don Laycock and the letter
seperately. Mailed registered letter on SPACE STIX, and took it
back with me.
Felicia called. She tried to contact Dan Ferrone but he wasn't
in.
She wrote to Jim Kraus asking if anyone had actually looked at
TORTS - THE GAME OF LAWSUITS.
She also asked again about WILD WOOD PILE.
In A. & S. near Huntington with Claude, Anne, and BB.
Saw SCRIPTOGRAM (Jumbo-Holland). A simple cross-word game
with 10 letter dice. Several variations given.
Also saw SWOOP (Whitman), which seemed to be same as POUNCE.
Claude suggested a book KNOW YOUR OWN I.Q. and I bought it.
Some game ideas could come from it.
Claude & Anne talked about trying Claude's new word GAME
with the 3 letters on the back. It needs more work.
(cont. from 7/23) [7/23]
as being more convenient to analyze. The lines are considered
strings connected to 9 marbles and to surrounding
frame. When all 4 strings to a marble are cut it is captured.
Martin suggested some kind of a commercial game could be
made using this idea.I said if I did he should get a
cut. He said no. Also the equivalency is old, not discovered
by Berlekamp, altho Martin didn't know it before.
Berlekamp also has a method for artificial
strategy in the FRENCH MILITARY GAME, or a similar
game on any extended board. The single pc. is
started as shown and the three pcs. in any
starting places.
"Strong Heuristic". Move to a position where the
sum of the numbers underneath all 4 men is a
multiple of 3. Strategy for either player. Not
perfect, but 99% effective.
[Diagram of an arrangement of interconnected squares and hexagons, each containing a number ranging from (-2) to (11). The (-2) space is labeled 'single pc.'. Above the '11' space the word 'etc.' is written.]
