TUESDAY 13 JULY 1971
194th day - 171 days to come
Felicia called. She rcd. a letter from Jim Goldsberry which
included his comments on OPEN BRIDGE. She dictated the following
to me.:
"Several of our "BRIDGE experts" played OPEN BRIDGE and all came
to the conclusion that there was little training or teaching value in the game.
As we played it became apparent very soon that there was no
"finessing" to the game and no effective way to "draw the trumps".
With the play of this game taking this direction it left little to
skill and more to chance.
We were unable to determine if all four players were to see all four
boards as bidding and play took place or if they were to see only
their board and/or their partner's board.
From the exposure we have had to OPEN BRIDGE we do not feel
this is a property for Hallmark. If we have incorrectly interpretted
and played the game, perhaps Sid can clarify the rules somewhat
in which case we would be glad to look at it again."
We agreed that I should write to him about it, and give
her a carbon.
She set up a date with Harvey Gardner for me to bring
him a copy of AGOG. Thursday at 2:30, Felicia won't be there.
If this works out she'll get the best deal possible from him.
Told Felicia about dropping out the [Square with a black dot in it.] from POWUR. She'll send
this to Bob Edwards.
Bob Engel rejected Al Richter's arts & crafts item. The reason
was so involved that he'll tell Felicia in person when he sees her.
Told her again that I would write to Virginia Russell about
RACE THRU SPACE GAMES.
Arthur called to make sure I had given Felicia the info on POWUR.
While away on a weekend Wald had played MONOPOLY. He found
it a very "strong" game.
Claude called. Made date for Friday.
Wrote to Eric Nielsen about his games EUCLID, ZAG, HORSE, THE DOMINO DOT GAME, CARD-BOARD, PATHWAYS, [Illegible crossed out], PENTOMINO PAIR, TOUCH AND GO, ISOLATION, TRANSFERA.
From S & T office rcd. a description of a classroom game
DANGEROUS PARALLELS, with notes from Al Nofi and Jim
Dunnigan.
Also enclosed a Press card till 1/1/72).
Finished letter to Don Laycock. Mentioned MAH JONG, 500, OH HELL,
MAKE & BREAK, BOTTOMS UP, CROWN RED, HAAR HOOLIM PERCEPTION GAMES,
MONDRIAN, SQUATTER, JAPANESE CHESS, CHESS, GO, FOCUS, PATTERTNS II,
ELEVENSIS, LAP, POPULAR DOMINO GAMES, FIVE-UP,
MEM.
