SUNDAY 4 JULY
Independence Day
Fourth Sunday after Trinity 1971 185th day - 180 days to come
Wrote to Jim Kraus about PLANES, BAZAAR, PROFIT.
Wrote to Michael Porcaro and George Harper of 3M's foreign dept.
Told them about DER SPIEGEL, EUGEN OKER'S SPIELWIESE,
& [crossed out] DAS GROSSE HAUS UND FAMILIENBUCH
DER SPIELE.
Wrote to Mary Hilt about TRANSFORMATION, AIRLINE, and
NOMINATION.
Wrote to Alfons Rubbens asking him to please return FREE FORM,
TRY-ANGLES, and the other material he took from Felicia.
BB and I tried SPACE STIX with the variation that the
rows are set up with an odd alternating with an even. Also with
2 odds alternating with 2 evens. With both variations the pat-
tern of play became too routine.
Then played a mini game with replay. This worked very
well.
(cont. from 7/5) [7/8]
To Arthur's. Gave him one of the copies of S&T #27.
Showed him RECONSTRUCTION & SPACE STIX. He liked them both.
He showed me a GAME played with "the Green Deck." This
is a deck with 16 red cards, 16 white cards, and 1 green
card.
2 play and one shuffles the cards and faces the
cards 1 at a time. The other player guesses the color
of each card before it is faced. If he guesses white or red
and is correct, the card is placed face up in a "correct["]
pile. If wrong, it goes face down in a "wrong" pile.
If the player guesses red or white and green turns up,
all the remaining cards in the deck, but not including the
green card, are added to the "wrong" pile. If the player
guesses green and [crossed out] red or white turns up
the player places this card on the "wrong" pile until the
green card shows. [crossed out] The green card is placed
aside and all cards after are placed on the "correct"
pile.
If the player guesses green and green turns up, the
player scores 32 plus each card in his correct pile
minus each card in his wrong pile. In all other cases
the score is the "correct" minus the "wrong" and
can result in points for the opponent - if the "wrong"
is larger. Two plays constitutes a game - with the
roles reversed.
I played by always calling green at the beginning.
