MONDAY 14 JUNE 1971
American Flag Adopted 1777 165th day - 200 days to come
Rcd. a check for $250 from Stancraft for AIRLINE.
Call from Ken Morgan. MOVIE MOGULS still doing well. He is
going to Florida for a couple of weeks and will work on
other GAMEs there.
In last Saturday's TIMES Brentanos had an ad for
PLOY, SLEUTH, and 2 other games he didn't remember.
Wrote rules OPEN BRIDGE. Other miscellaneous work in-
cluding packaging it and X-CHANGE-WORD. For
OPEN BRIDGE used a PSYCHE-PATHS box cut down. For
OPEN BRIDGE used the box in which I had KISMET. Placed
the latter in a box on shelf [24].
Called Phil Orbanes to see if he wanted me to bring SPACE STIX
to him tomorrow for a preliminary look. He is very busy
working on THE NEXT PRESIDENT in addition to his other duties
at Hoi-Poiloi. He'd rather that I wait until SACE STIX is
complete with rules. There is no great hurry, since wood items
can be gotten ready starting as late as September.
The designer for Gametime had the following idea for
MANHATTAN MADNESS. Use extruded square plastic tubing.
Place a "foil" insert with the design and then seal the ends.
It can probably be made this way to sell for $5 retail.
The reception of ORBIT is great. Brentano's is ordering 440
just from the description.
There have problems with ENIGMA, falling apart while being
worked on Hallowell is withdrawing it for redesign. ORBIT
will be put in its place in the catalog. ENIGMA was sold by
Gini Scott, acting as an agent for someone else.
Retailers have been complaining about NINE OF SWORDS. Customers
take out the swords and then leave them around or break
them in forcing them back. For stores in this area Bob will
glue the last sword in place (I suggested the next to
last) for a demonstration model. This won't be feasable for
stores serviced by jobbers out of this area. Phil thinks the
sales will be better by mail order than in stores.
Bob Reiss is so enthusiastic about ORBIT that Bob
Hallowell is investing in a new mold, even tho he could turn
them out with the SWITCHED-ON ESP mold, but slower.
(cont, from 6/13) [6/26]
rules and layout of the board. The "counters" have scoring
values which I didn't get.
THE GAME OF STRATEGY (McLoughlin Bros. - 1891). Took com-
plete info.
Herb gave me a copy his club made of an 1895 catalog of
cast iron toys by "The Wilkens Toy Co. - Keene, N.H."
