FRIDAY 11 JUNE
St. Barnabas
Kamehameha Day (Hawaii) 1971 162nd day - 203 days to come
Rcd. STRATEGY I from Jim Dunnigan.
In June 14th NEW YORK Magazine had the following piece in the
"Best Bets" section: "Board with Sex" . . . So far we've sampled
lib games called WOMEN'S LIB, THE LIB GAME, and most recently,
HE-SHE-HIM-HER, which has the female trying to get her tokens
(brass wedding rings) out of the kitchen, while the male tries to block
the exits with his silver bolts. They're pretty innocuous as satire
and, at least for us, not the least bit consciousness-raising. But we
did have a good time with COUPLES, a new game of improvisation,
introspection and, sometimes, embarrassing revelation, from the makers
of GROUP THERAPY. Two couples play COUPLES. While one performs, the
other judges with "Boo" or "Bravo" cards. Sample challenges: "One of you
is an obscene phone caller and the other is eager for conversation, but
uninterested in sex. Talk." Or, "Box together playfully, while shouting out
compliments to each other." Or, "Do a commercial for yourself as a model
couple." We asked Susan Haven, one of the creators, to compare the new
game with the old. "Easy," she said. "GROUP THERAPY" is to COUPLES as
Freud is to the Marx Brothers." (COUPLES/Brentano's and Bloomingdales/$8)
Working on OPEN BRIDGE.
Felicia called. Rappaport's says that the only game that is moving is CLASS.
They think that EXECUTIVE DECISION will be a good one. The
3M Gamettes are not doing well. MONAD is dead. HIGH BID is about
the best.
Told Felicia about my call to Lee Horn. Felicia will get me on Franklin's show.
Felicia asked AGOG and I told her that I had stated preceedings
to get back the rights.
The inventor of CHECKPOINT CHARLIE, who was introduced to
her by the head of Durand-publishers of THE GREAT DOWNHILL SKI GAME,
contacted her. He is a success in other fields, one thing being
a gadget with 3M which Felicia thinks might be the thing
Tietle spoke to me about. He also has a puzzle being con-
sidered by Springbok. In an automobile accident he lost the use
of his legs. He has an inflated idea of his games and wants
more than the usual royalties. His name - Gil Bayek.
Bayak said that Durand was having money troubles and that he
took back CHECKPOINT CHARLIE. Felicia, however, still has an appoint-
ment with the president to show him BING-BONG BALL.
Natelie Donna came up with an item (no details) which Felicia
thinks will be sold. Natelie expected to give I.S. 35% and was
pleased that old clients will stay at 25%.
Another call from Felicia. Rappaports used to sponser the Regatta
in Central Park but is not doing it this year. (Why?)
Felicia is looking for a new event and asked if I would be
willing to appear there at a "Game Fair" where people
would ask me questions about all kinds of games. Sure.
