MONDAY 31 MAY
Memorial Day
Monday in Whitsun Week 1971 151st day - 214 days to come
Wrote to Dr. Allen S. Mariner who is fascinated with ULTIMA. Sent
him Bob Abbott's address so he can write to him.
Barney L. Taylor about his game of HINDU CHECKERS.
G.L. Roland - sent FOCUS.
Dave Calkins - sent S&T order envelope and described magazine.
Leonard Enos - sent FOCUS, offered SLAM, described my published games.
Tom Atwater - sent $25 check for TRANSFORMATION.
Played POTENTIAL with BB. Plays very well.
Thought of a wood game, possible name SPACE STIX, which is a
development of BOXES.
(cont. from 5/30) [5/27]
I told Al about some of my ideas for making his WHIRLPOOL into
a skill game. Most likely - have cards with different num-
bers which can be chosen to determine the number of
spaces to move the wheel.
He showed me a PUZZLE he is working on. There
[sketch of cylinder with two rows of different-colored squares surrounding]
are 4 rings as shown. The spaces are col-
ored in different arrangements of 4 (I be-
lieve) colors. Object is to place the 4 rings
on a spindle so that at each joint the colors
match. He said there was only one solution but I solved
it rather easily.
Played PLANES and they liked it.
Made date for them to visit us 6/11.
[arrow pointing both up and down] [started 5/27]
Claude called. He was at the thrift stores and he saw a copy
of DUET BRIDGE for about $1. I thought I had it but
found that I didn't. Told him to go get it. He had already
picked up BRIDGE FOR ONE (M.B.) for about 25¢. Thought I
had this, but didn't.
(cont. from 6/1) [6/3]
except that it was hard keeping track of what was
prohibited. Solved this neetly be providing 4 black chips.
Each time a player makes a transfer he places a chip
on the square which stops others from being placed on it
and also indicated sizes that can't be transfered again. If
a move on the field is made a chip is passed to the next
player. Thought of having a different allowable arrange-
ment of color matches for each player, avoiding automatically
reversable moves. Also think it might be a good idea to
(cont. on 5/21)
