SUNDAY 30 MAY
Whitsunday
Feast of Weeks--Shebuoth 1971 150th day - 215 days to come
Phil Orbanes called. He developed something for Hoi-Poloi which
they want to call ORBIT. I told him about Parker's and
Arrco's use of the name. Their lawyers found Parker's appli-
cation and an objection. He asked, as possible alternates
if they can't use ORBIT, about REVOLVER, REVOLUTION, and
WHIRL. These are O.K. as far as I know.
He is going to have Bob Hallowell call me next Tuesday
when Bob visits him and set up a date to see
MANHATTAN MADNESS. Bob is interested in doing something of his.
He also [crossed out] reminded me to contact Carl Eisenberg for
him to come here. I said that I didn't have much finished
things around, but we agreed that I could discuss ideas
with Carl.
He asked me about TROMINO GO, thinking it would be
a good thing for Hoi-Poloi to put out in wood. Told him that
it had just been signed up with X. Told him that I could
come up with other strategy games using small pieces. They
can be colored or printed he said.
He is going to arrange a date with John Anderson towards the
end of June to play KING HAMLET. He suggested discussing
our plans then. I thought that wouldn't be fair to John &
that we should get together ourselves. He agreed.
Dale played BROADSIDE with Mark.
(cont. from 5/29) [5/27]
X-CHANGE-WORD. She really like the latter. // Bought her sandwich.
To Skunk Works. Spoke to Red a short while. Got FANTOCCINI
and LUFTWAFFE. Red said that the end of June is O.K. for
my next column.
Rcd. a letter from Arlan Tietel confirming our talk on 5/20.
Rcd. a letter from { Robert Braunwart III, [address], Seattle, Washington 98105
He is working on a book of "Configurational Games" (no pub-
lisher as of yet) and would like permission to use 6 games
from AGOG: SUIT YOURSELF, SOLITAIRE DICE, PLANK, NETWORK,
CUTTING CORNERS, and LAST WORD.
Rcd. a spring-summer catalog from F.A.O. Schwartz. Contains
PENTAGON, MASTERPIECE, AD-LIB, COMPUTAMATIC BASEBALL,
WILD LIFE, BOUNDARY, I PREDICT, PHILOSOPHER'S KNOT,
PGA TOURNAMENT GOLF, SMOG, DIRTY WATER, BRIDGETTE.
(Book discarded. Pages with I PREDICT, PHILOSOPHER'S KNOT,
and PGA TOURNAMENT GOLF put in 1971 Ad Clips Folder.)
To Al & Adela Richter. Looked at Stephen Barr's book
A MISCELLANY OF PUZZLES, MATHEMATICAL AND OTHERWISE. It did not
seem to be interesting to me.
(cont. on 5/31)
