WEDNESDAY 19 MAY
Rogation Day 1971 139th day - 226 days to come
To Riess' office for meeting with Phil Orbanes.
He said that everyone there was sorry for Carl Eisenberg, being
so completely under Gund's thumb. Phil told me a little about the
gambling game, PRIX that Carl is going to do. The value of the
bet is influenced in a way that he couldn't describe without a model.
It sounded a little like PROFIT and I told him about it. It wasn't.
Carl likes CONGLOMERATES very much, but right now A.H. is
considering it.
He gave me a copy of HE-SHE-HIM-HER, the rules for ASTRAL TAROT,
and a "Kalliroscope."
Bob Reiss would like a gambling GAME based on the unequal dice that
Martin Gardner had in a recent column in SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN,
and also other wooden items.
Phil and Jim Dunnigan are working on getting THE NEXT PRESIDENT
into shape for publication this fall.
Bob Hallowell is interested in Phil doing a game, tentative title-
THE AMERICAN DREAM. Cards would have different types of nostalgia
on them and players would try to collect the nostalgia that
meant the most to them. (Still in very rough form.) Told him about
Stellador's HAGGLE.
The Book of the Month mailing just out was a test mailing of about
100,000. A larger one will go in the fall. NINE OF SWORDS did
the best of Hallowell's. PLATO'S PLIGHT did best of the whole
mailing. AQUARIUS 2000 did well. Got a copy of the mail-
ing, also a catalog folder and a small mailer with Reiss'
things. Among others included: CUBISSIMO, TOWER OF TROUBLE,
TOTEMANIA, EVEN STEVEN, WIT'S END, ASTROLOGIC, HAPPY CUBES,
DAFFY DOTS, CURIOUS CROSS, LUCK-OUT. (Filed in 1971 Ad Clips.)
If I bring inventors, Infinity will get 25%.
Called Felicia from there. Jim Goldsbury didn't have anything
to say about my contracted games. They love DUEL and want more
like it. Told her of Amberstone's wanting to bring POWUR and
AFRICAN CHESS to her. We'll set a date next week.
To Skunk Works. Jim Dunnigan there. He looked for FANTOCCINI. He
found a package being mailed to me. We opened it and it was
the glossies for SLEUTH and EXECUTIVE DECISION, 2 of each. Left
1 of each with Red and took 1 set. Jim doesn't think they
ever rcd. FANTOCCINI.
Jim wants my next column in 2 to 3 week. I said I needed 4.
To Stationery Show. Met Felicia. She had a carbon of Keith's
letter to me about corrected EXECUTIVE DECISION rules.
Jim Goldsbury solved both solutions of WILD WOOD PILE in ten
minutes. Said there was nothing to it. We'll send it back to 3M.
The only thing Jim liked of all the things she showed him
was ZEC-HI. He is very interested in something on BRIDGE, some-
thing that BRIDGE players would really like to play.
"Jim Schisgall" - Sports Illustrated Games: Gave them an S&T col-
umn. Got an ad sheet for PRO FOOTBALL, COLLEGE FOOTBALL,
(cont. on 5/22)
