FRIDAY 7 MAY
1971 127th day - 238 days to come
Rcd. another call from Arlan Tietel (see 4/23). They are going ahead
with GAME applications of their device. Arlan has come up
with a GOLF game, which is quite popular there. He descrbied
the game to me and I got a pretty good picture of how
the machine. The "tape" does the programming. From a "frame"
you have a choice of three of three paths depending on which
of three buttons you push and the program can send you anywhere
from 7 back to 7 forward or back to the same frame. In his game
at the start of the hole you had a choice of three positions in
which to tee up. This sends you to another picture,
after which you spin a three position dial to get the next
button to push, which gives you the picture of your new ball
position. The voice then gives you a choice of three clubs, after
giving you a description of the position, Etc. One hole
was done on 35 frames, tho he figured and using fifty
per hole.
I checked with him about the cost of the device and it is in
the neighborhood of $400. So their thinking is for rental use.
He has the legal dept. working on some kind of a royalty
arrangement and I should hear from them in a week or
two.
I mentioned the idea of a travel GAME and also
mentioned it might be a race game. He brought up an
automobile "Rally" he had been in, but I felt that that
would be too limited a field. I thought that a stock market
GAME might be an idea. Later thought of a maze GAME
in a "Fun House" type setting, or possibly a Mintaur setting.
Arlan will try to get to N.Y. to show me the machine in
person. Or possibly an engineer may be in town with it.
Rcd. POPULATION, ECOLOGY, and WOMEN'S LIB? from Urban Systems.
Called Miss Golden (see 5/6). They weren't able to find the copy
of DER SPIEGEL with the article, but they had copies mis-
sing. She suggested the library at { Goethe House, 1014 5th Ave. (Nr 83rd), 744-8310
She thought the librarian there might remember the issue.
Called and she said she had a vague recollection of about
4 or 5 months ago. They are open [crossed out]
Mon., Fri., Sat - 9:30-5; Tues., Weds., Thurs. - 1:00-8:30.
Played PLANES with Dave. He beat me 42-40.
