SATURDAY 10 APRIL
Easter Even
First Day of Passover--Pesach 1971 100th day - 265 days to come
[see 4/9]
Played PLANES with BB. For simplification eliminated needing
two filled planes before one could be removed. Instead
5 tiles have to remain (or more) after a removal. This
worked at least as well.
Thought of a GAME idea, which comes from PLANES, but
resembles some of the things Haar has been writing about.
Tiles are divided into quarters and colored so that each
[sketch of square divided into four quadrants: top left shaded red, top right shaded yellow, bottom left shaded green, bottom right shaded green]
different arrangement, from all of one color to
one each of the four colors, is represented. I
believe that 70 different tiles will result.
2 to 4 can play. Each takes a color, or 2 colors when
2 play. 10 tiles are faced and then are placed one at a
time by the players until a 3 x 3 square is formed, and
one tile is left unused. Win point for a majority of your
color in each row or column. Also points, and probably
more, for the long diagonals.
Ties can be resolved by eliminating the tying
colors. Or possibly by splitting if two tie.
Play 7 similar hands in a game.
(To be tested.)
Claude called to tell me that a Marlboro catalog he rcd. had
AGOG listed for $1.98. Told him I knew already. He
urged me to get after Random House to buy them while
still available. He thinks they may be as cheap at 60¢.
He wants me to buy $20 worth for him if they are
available.
Told him about DUEL and TOTALLY probably being accepted
and that Hallmark will be making decisions.
Dana's friend "Henry" told me of a game called SPADES,
which is supposed to be of Southern origin.
2 play using a 52 card deck. Players in draw 2 cards
from the pack, keeping one and discarding the other from the
game. After all the cards have been gone thru each player
has a hand of 13 cards. These are played in tricks of one
card from each player. Spades are always trump, but
they cannot be led unless the player only has spades.
Suit must be followed, but if out may trump or throw off
players, before start of the trick playing, each announce how
many tricks they expect to take. If they make as many
as announced they score 10 points for each announced
and 1 point for each overtrick. If set a player goes down
ten times the number announced, regardless of how many
tricks he is set. Play to some set amount. (Pretty complete
idea, but there may be some errors or omissions.)
Gave Henry a SLAM booklet.
