FRIDAY 26 MARCH 1971
Kuhio Day (Hawaii) 85th day - 280 days to come
Felicia called. She had a call from Dick Harris at M.B. They are
returning TANGLED WEB & ECLIPSE. They are just new forms of
existing puzzles. They want completely new departures, he said,
but Felicia said something really new would scare them.
He is interested in seeing QUADRUME.
All strategy games are done in house.
Another call from Felicia. She is writing to Whitman. Should
she ask them about FOCUS? Why not?
Alfons Rubbens has been dropping in to her office, leaving suit-
cases. Her impression was that he is pretty smalltime but I pointed
out that he and Waddington are practically merged.
WHO CAN BEAT NIXON? is very hot according to Herb Roth.
Working all day on the NOMINATION cards.
(cont. from 3/25) [3/23]
Hecht-Vidmer has pretty much stopped trying to run the operation
and simply act as S&Ts ad agency. They do have money in-
vested in the operation.
Asked Jim if capsule reviews of the games I saw at the Fairs
would be O.K. Yes.
Phil has gotten a job with Bob Reiss.
Called Phil Orbanes for the news. Bob Reiss is manufacturing
some wooden puzzles and Phil is the office manager for this op-
eration. Some of the puzzles are ones that Phil worked on
for Renwal, but they were never used. His termination with
Renwal allows him to keep anything that wasn't published.
His arrangement with Reiss allows him to create and sell on his
own and even if Reiss does them he, or rather Infinity-Quest
will get royalties.
Jim Dunnigan suggested MANHATTAN MADNESS for Reiss but
Phil knows that Bob Hallowell still is interested in it. Hallowell will
call me in April to bring it up to him.
I asked about 9 OF SWORDS. It is not in production yet but
should be by Stationery Show. It will probably be on the
cover of the May BOOK-OF-THE-MONTH mailing.
To raise some money Renwal sold AQUARIUS 2000. Carl
Eisenberg got Gund to put up the money and now will continue
with this and BRIDGEVERYONE. Phil has other items
using the same mold as AQUARIUS 2000 and Carl will do these.
If all goes well he'll be looking for new things next year. (Inci-
dentally, the deal for AQUARIUS 2000 just went thru today.)
Bob Hallowell will be handling the Computer Horoscope service
by mail order - under license from Infinity-Quest. Phil
thinks that things will move quickly now.
