TUESDAY 23 MARCH 1971
82nd day - 283 days to come
Working on the cards for NOMINATION.
Spoke to Felicia to tell her about Jim Kraus' call yesterday. Also told
her that I rcd. a copy of RACE THRU SPACE GAMES on 3/20. She
is not doing much about selling it and I'll hold on to the copy indefinitely.
Alfons Rubbens called her and will visit her tomorrow. He got her name
from the GAMEWAYS people in Canada. She asked him if he knew
me and, after she mentioned AGOG, he said he did. Told her that I
had met him and that he had wanted to see my games - but
nothing definite.
Felicia is looking over the work Alice did on BALIGRAMS. One
of her board members may be able to get it syndicated.
She is going to write to Bob Edwards asking about LIVE WIRE &
TROMINO GO. She reminded me that the $250 is now a closing fee
rather than an advance on royalties. I said that it wasn't fair to
have a better contract for new things than for those they have held
up for years. She said she wrote suggesting that the closing fee should
be made retroactive, but they just didn't answer.
She also said that the games they had of mine weren't the best.
I objected, saying that RED LETTER was one of the greatest. She ad-
mitted that she hadn't seen the improved version. I also pointed out
FITTING & PROPER.
Al Rubbens called me, to find out my relationship with Felicia, among
other things. I told him she was my agent.
I asked and he told me that he came to an agreement with Pressman
on their knock off of CUBE FUZION. They will state on the box that they
are licensed by "House of Games." They will give him the Canadian
and European rights to three of their items. He will probably
take HI-SPOT and two children's items. Altho he hasn't told them yet,
he will market CUBE FUZION in the U.S.
I ask him about GAMEWAYS and he said that at present they are
only a store in Toronto selling only games. Since X'Mas they
haven't been doing too well financially. They don't know in which
direction they want to go and are sort of floundering
around.
Doherty, however, is quite good at inventing games and, Alfons
said, he is probably my main competition. I mentioned Marvin Glass. Alfons
said that he didn't do adult games. I informed him that MASTERPIECE
was done by Glass.
Alfons inquired about various stores & chains to see which he should
call on. So far Macy's & Gimbel's have given him orders, as well as
some others. He will be coming in monthly on selling trips. (The
Ontario government pays part of his expenses.)
He asked me a little about CONFRONTATION and THE LIB GAME. He has the
rights to them and may put them in the "record" packaging.
I told him of Renwal's CONFRONTATION and he said Gini Scott told him
she had gotten a release.
Renwal sent him a bad check and Lou Wechsel made it up.
