SATURDAY 23 JANUARY 1971
23rd day - 342 days to come
Rcd. a clipping from Martin Gardner. 1/71 issue of
THE MATHEMATICS TEACHER started a review section.
Games reviewed were PRIME DRAG, MAKE ONE, SPACE CHECKERS,
NUMBLE, and ACQUIRE (which was priced at $7.00)
Read the rules for Gini Scott's CONFRONTATION. Took it a-
long to the Baschkopf's along with PLANES and LIVE WIRE.
Marcey & Bill there and we played 6-hand PLANES. Started
to divide up the pcs. so that each side would draw
their own but it was time consuming and unwieldly. Decided
against using it.
Made a change that after all pcs. are played players
must take off a plane with 5 or more if one is available,
before taking smaller planes. This made the final cleanup
very fast and maybe I'd better go back to the other way,
that any plane with 2 or more pieces can be taken. But this
may give too much advantage to the side with more of their
pieces on the board.
Brought a copy of TEMPO to Annette as a present.
Rcd. a card from Violet I. Gunther. Do I still want TOURING? Sent
her a card saying I had sent a check.
Rcd. the GENERAL. They had an article about Pomadour
Dominion (see 1/18). The catalog can be purchased for
$1, American. "Gameways"
While I was out rcd. calls from Claude, Arthur, and H.A. Kuhn.
(TICKER TAPE). No particular message.
(cont. from 1/30) [2/25]
than others.
COMPLETION - Howard's game. Played a little. (see catalog for picture.)
The large cards have different designs that have to be matched.
The small deck has parts that fit together to form the de-
signs:- O, o, - [1/2"], -- [1"], ---- [2"], [unreadable fraction], "Anything". Each player is
dealth 5 small cards. A player in his turn discards from 1 to 4
cards face up on the table and replaces them from the deck.
When, at the start of his turn, a player can "complete" the design
using cards from his hand and from the table, [crossout]
he places the required cards from his hand on the table and
takes the design card, scoring its value. All cards on
the table are removed to a discard pile. A new design card is
turned and the game continues with the next player having
his turn. If a player can "complete" before any cards have been
played to the table for that design he scores double the
value. Straight line designs can be made up by different
combinations of the line segments or the angle. The "Any-
