MONDAY 28 DECEMBER 1970
Holy Innocents
362nd day - 3 days to come
Sent X'Mas cards with messages to : Frank Thibault, Tom Mason (Whitman), Dr. Tom Atwater. Sent Frank Thibault a copy of my BOOK WORLD column.
Rcd. an X'Mas card and short note from Warren Buell.
Rcd. an X'Mas card from Geiger.
Rcd. an X'Mas card with a short letter from Frank Thibault.
Rcd. a postcard from Don Miller. He'd like my "3M" article for the GAMESMAN by the middle of January.
Called Rodger Hess about the letter from Bill Caruson (12/21). Rodger said that he had an open mind about the whole deal. It could be any company, not necessarily "3M." Also, it doesn't matter to them if David Frost's name is on the game or not, tho they think it should help. I agreed, but told him about "3M's" reluctance to have anyone's name on their games. Possibly "M.B." or "Parker," being more promotionally minded, might be a better possibly. I brought up the matter of finances. He didn't know what the arrangements were in the game field. I told him some of the usual, such as 5% and licensing coming out of that. He said he is sure we'll work something out fair to all of us.
We left it that I would work on it as soon as I get some other, less speculative, things out of the way. If he finds someone else he will let me know.
Working on the new Hawaiian version of GO SEE. Made a board and a set of 18 cards. Played 4-hand by myself. Then 2 hand with BB. Finally 3 hand with BB & Dale. First I played that the 4th color didn't count at all. This made the game too slow. Then I changed it to all players counting the 4th color the same as if it was their own. This worked fine, as did the 2&4.
Cut out my column from issue #24 of S&T to get repros tomorrow. Also packed my father's translation of the two Hungarian games for repros.
(cont. from 12/29) [12/29]
and the others pick out the same cards.
Saw HANG UP (Benjor). 27 cubes have digits on the 6 sides. Object is to place them in a large cube so that on each of the 5 visible faces the row, columns, and long diagonals all add up to 15.
Reading Pierre's LE LIVRE DES JEUX on the subway.
Rcd. two books ordered from Publisher's Clearing House:
(cont. on 12/27)
