SUNDAY 27 DECEMBER 1970
St. John, Evangelist
First Sunday after Christmas
361st day - 4 days to come
Though of some changes in PLANES and tried a game with BB. Instead of having a choice of 3 different tiles on a turn, each player has 2 tiles - one closer to him and the other behind it. The closer one is the one he will play on his turn. The further one is for the next turn. As one is played a new one is placed behind, etc. [diagram to left of text showing squares and half circles.]
Players place their tile anywhere they wish, and more than 5 tiles in a plane is permissible. To take a trick a player takes 5 tiles from a plane and in this turn he does not place a tile.
BB thought that if there were more than 5 tiles in a plane, they would all go of be taken off together. I didn't play it that way, but later realized it would probably be better that way, but later realized it would probably be better that way. When taking a trick there have to be at least 5 tiles in a plane; but if there are more (up to a maximum, of course, of 9) all are taken if the trick is taken in that plane.
Another possibility is to allow, once all the tiles have been played to the board, the taking of tricks with less than 5 until all tiles have been removed. In the interest of simplifying the instructions decided to make a trick total of 10 or 20 a zero rather than a 10.
Called Claude. [illegible crossed out] He came across the game OMBRE in a short story and asked if I knew it. He has DUEL ready for packaging and wants me to see the board.
(cont. from 12/28)[12/29]
MATHEMATICAL PUZZLES and THE WORLD OF TOYS.
Jerry Dougherty called. He'd appreciate a rough set of rules for GO SEE. Will have them in the mail so that he gets them by next Monday.
Felicia called. Ruth Shaler was very much impressed with what I did with GO SEE. She has a lot of other GAME ideas which she would like me to work on, with the same sharing of royalties. Told Felicia I'd like to as soon as I do a little more catching up.
Claude called. Nothing specifically about games.
