Sunday 20 December 1970
Fourth Sunday in Advent 354th day - 11 days to come
Rcd. [received] X'Mas cards from Mary Hilt (who is no longer at "Whitman," but is now at "Stancraft" - she is evaluating AIRLINE, Mickie Mackay, & Fabio Coen.
Sent X'Mas cards to Bob Hallowell, Warren Buell, Mary Hilt, Mickie Mackay (sending her the BOOK WORLD repro, including CARDINO, Barbara Francis, Fay Hartog, Fabio Coen, Diane Jaust, Herb Siegel, and BB send one to Claude.
(cont. from 12/21) [12/21]
a zone from the standard field.
The king, knight, and pawn have their regular move in the zones, except that a pawn which has moved towards the end of a zone thru captures [illegible word crossed out] moves diagonally forward when not able to move straight ahead.
Saw COMPUTAMATIC FINANCE. There seems to be a board allowing [illegible word crossed out] various purchases and sales of stocks. Movement is determined by the one who's turn it is and one of the other players pushing buttons, secret from each other. (Very rough idea.) //said hello to Dorothy Shapiro.
At "Abacrombie [Abercrombie] & Fitch" they had ACQUIRE and 3 other "3M" games in a downstairs window.
Saw MONGER (Cabitec Inc., Winston-Salem, N.C.). Sells for $30. As well as a board there is a large, standing board with dials for indicating market prices, a drum for indicating price fluctuations, and other information. It is a combination of MONOPOLY (with spaces to be owned) and a "stock market" game. (Couldn't get any of the details.)
To Felicia's a little late. Ruth Shaler and Walter York-Koenigstein there. He showed me his game 97 and gave me a sheet with a layout of the board and the instructions, but due to his bad English they can't really be understood.
Each player starts by putting 6 markers in the "start" spaces. Play is with one die. A throw 1, 2, or 3 allows the player to move one of his pieces onto the field that many spaces. 4, 5, or 6 at beginning doesn't allow a move.
Once a piece is on a numbered space with a throw of 1, 2, or 3 tie can o it can either be moved vertically forward or to a number 1, 2, or 3 higher than the space resting on. With 4, 5, or 6 more similarly back vertically or to a number lower by 1, 2, or 3. (Walter said the movement was 4, 5, or 6, but his instructions show it my way.)
Object is to move all pcs. [pieces] to 97 first. Another way to of reaching this goal is by having 2 or 3 pieces on spaces
