SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER 1970
332nd day - 33 days to come
Started making equipment for a PUZZLE which I originally
conceived on 8/19. Changed the concept considerably
and tentatively call it TORTURE TOWERS.
At the Laurence's played OVER AND OVER with Phil. He beat me
most of the games.
Played PLANES with Phil and I beat him. One problem: with
with the rule that a player must leave 3 pcs. of the field
when he completes a trick, the player who will first be
able to complete a trick knows this and can get an advantage
from it.
Later thought of two possible changes. A player
taking a trick must leave at least one pc. in each
of the other 8 planes. This would probably be quite
difficult to see.
The other idea would be to have the necessity that at least
two tricks by ripe (4 pcs. are in at least two different
planes) before a trick can be taken.
(cont. from 12/2) [12/2]
that the same shaped piece can not be played consecutively.
I still think it should be included as a rule for
advanced players.
(cont. from 12/3) [12/3]
10.
To the Soucie's with BB.
Played FREE FORM with Claude, Raymond, and Richie. It was
over rather quickly and they didn't care too much for it.
Played a couple of games of Claude's DUEL. It was also
rather short, especially when a player overlooked an
immediate win [illegible crossed out] in the next move. I suggested
that a warning be given. Claude didn't like the idea
too much but we played that way and I think it helped.
Showed TORTURE TOWERS to BB, Anne, and Marty Frank. They
got 8 towers in place but the ninth one wouldn't fit.
I played around with putting the towers side by side
in size order so that no two of the same color were next to
each other. It was too easy. Since Bob Reiss had a puzzle
TRAUMA TOWER in his line I decided that TORTURE TOWERS
would be too close to it. MANHATTAN MADNESS is another
possibility and it seemed popular.
