SATURDAY 21 NOVEMBER 1970
Presentation of B. V. Mary 325th day - 40 days to come
Rcd. a repro of an article in a Russion magazine on
PATTERNS II, from Martin Gardner.
Rcd. a pleasant letter from an AGOG reader.
Added a corner move to the GAME played with BB
last night. Also restricted a player to an odd number
of moves (1, 3, 5). Tried with BB. Good. Also by myself.
Thought of the name ECLIPSE for Claude's
Queen's PUZZLE.
Made a 3x3x3 field for playing PLANES. Also a
set of 54 playing pcs.
(cont. from 12/19) [12/21]
vided into about 20x20 spaces, each with a letter. The
better letters (such as E) were towards the center
players (up to 4) start 6 pieces on the outside and
work spirally towards the center, using (I believe) dice.
Pieces can be captured and game ends when one player
has none left, score for having words formed with your
markers. (This is a rough idea, a lot of it supposition from
seeing the board, since we didn't go into details.) Felicia
wouldn't handle another word game.
He had another GAME played on a board shaped
similar to that for 97, without numbers. Similar type
object. (Didn't get any details.)
Ruth suggested using her game PEACHY (see 11/11/64) with
Hawaiian pictures on the cards. For scoring only
the last trick would count, the sum of the numbers
on the cards in that trick. The "Peachy" card would
be replaced with one saying "Fly Continental."
I told them of my ideas for a GO SEE variation and
they liked them. I took the mock-up Jerry Dougherty sent
which had the Hawaiian Islands with routes connecting
them shown on two pages. I'll work out a game using blank
cards (except for a point value) and Ruth will provide the
travel data. Date for next Tuesday at 10:30.
Before going downtown called Phil Orbanes [crossout]
called me. He had a report from
Carl Eisenberg. Bob Reiss really likes MANHATTAN MADNESS.
He wants to hold up on PRIX for a while to think
whether board games will be suitable. Phil told Carl that
a $250 advance would be OK with him if it was
