SATURDAY 31 OCTOBER 1970
Hallowe'en
Reformation Day
304th day - 61 days to come
Tom Atwater called. He said that Hank Lamb was definitely
doing AIRLINE and TRANSFORMATION and the contracts
were in the works with the legal dept. (He was surprised
that he hadn't already told me.)
He hasn't rcd. any royalty statements on TEMPO,
ODD OR EVEN, or INTERPLAY, DOZO, or CASTILLE. He
mentioned it to Hank and Hank promised to look into that too.
I told him how fast TANGLED WEB came back from "Lakeside".
He told me that he had to show it to Hank Simmons
first, but he thinks they are "stupid" returning it so fast.
I asked if i should send it to Hank Lamb and he said
"yes". He is afraid that producing it might be a problem
- as I was afraid.
I asked him whether I should work on HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME
and he said to hold up for the present.
He said he was being "paged" and I didn't get a chance
to ask about the label goofs on the two games and the
special projects Hank Lamb mentioned in his last letter.
Called Jim Dunnigan. No answer and then called Phil Orbanes.
Told him about Bob Hallowell and EXCALIBUR.
Phil told me a lot of news.
Now that Jim Dunnigan is working for Vidmer (who
is doing a lot to build up the circulation of S & T) Jim
will be leaving "Infinity - Quest Inc." Phil will use
various royalty monies to buy back Jim's stock.
- Phil has been seeing Carl Eisenberg, who now runs
BRIDGEVERYONE. Originally Carl came in to assist
Bob Hallowell. When Bob left the owner of the company
("Gordan Gund" - who is the millionaire son of the "Cleveland Trust")
asked Carl to take over. He made a profit while Bob
had caused a loss.
Carl wants to expand their line and Phil showed
him the six games that he and Jim had worked up for
"Renwal" to put out under the "Gamescience" label. Carl
liked CONGLOMERATE and CONFRONTATION and took them to
play with some of his associates. Since one was done by
Phil & the other by Jim they agreed to split the royalties
on either or both if sold - 40% - 40% - and 20% to
"Infinity - Quest".
Phil suggested to carl that I should be hired to do
the rules but Carl has a writer he likes.
Carl was interested in a 3 - D puzz PUZZLE and I
said that I might be able to come up with one (possibly
the one from 8/19). Phil will mention it to him [illegible crossed out] that
I might present a puzzle in a few weeks.
Phil was a little concerned about working with Carl after
working with Bob Hallowell. At present Bob is not to know about
Carl.
