WEDNESDAY 23 SEPTEMBER
First Day of Autumn 1970 266th day - 99 days to come
Wrote to Michael Dummett. Invited him to get in touch
and set up a visit.
Called Tom Nelson to thank him for the picture he
sent. Told him that I was on the Randy show, John
Wingate, and on "WEVD." He's not trying for any of
these. Told him of my operation. He said not to let the
possibility of a radio appearance influence my plans.
Called Mickey Mackay. Lunch day next Monday. I'll
call in morning to confirm details.
Claude called. He bought a copy of book on card games
marked down from $6 to $3. He saw another copy
and asked if I'd like it. Yes.
Called Jack Davis. He hadn't written up the report on
the "Hallmark" demonstration - too busy. Also (as I
knew from Felicia) he hadn't called her. I suggested
that it would be politic for him to do so. He said
he'd do it right away.
Jim Dunnigan called while I was out and I called him
back. He was afraid that I felt he had cut me
off in our last conversation - which I didn't.
He rcd. the rules of ORIGINS OF WORLD WAR II which
I sent him. However he located his file on it and
had all the info. The "Press Card" is ordered but not ready yet.
He is supposed to sign the contract with Vidmer tomorrow.
Sent DIG to Jane Jordan, 1st Class. Olita called before,
apparantly not knowing the Jane called yesterday. I
told her it will go today. [crossed out]
Rcd. the sets of blank cards Jim Kraus sent to me. They
are completely blank, without any back designs.
Rcd. the steel shelving we ordered from "Sears."
Thinking some more of a PUZZLE which I had thought of
previous (but hadn't entered in the diary). There are
irregular pcs. which fit together to form a 4 x 4 square.
There are 4 layers of these, the bottom layer being
solid, the second layer having small holes in each of
the 16 sections, the next having larger holes, and the
forth having the largest. The object is to place the 4
layers so that in each section the 4 colors show.
A possible arrangement of pcs. could be as shown,
each layer having the same sizes but different
colors and layout of the pcs. 7 different possible
layouts are shown:
