Thursday 3 September 1970
246th day - 119 days to come
Saw Jane Jordan during day. She said to hold on to the
"Interact Games" (see 9/1) as long as I want. She
said also that I could keep the copies of the games I
am using for demonstrating.
Marge Naramore stopped by to wish me luck. I told her about
getting two copies of SMOG and DIRTY WATER and offering to
return one set. She said to keep them, and if I could pass them
to someone who could give them some publicity it would be very
much appreciated.
While showing FOCUS two people were very interested in
it. Gave them my cards to send for the booklet
A computor student from Buffalo who stopped by yesterday
came back with a copy of AGOG for me to autograph.
Red. a letter from Haar Hoolim with a clipping in Yiddish.
Not on games.
During day called Marvin Katz at TOYS & NOVELTIES and went
there about 5:45. He gave me the two oversize pic-
tures of me that were made by mistake.
He also gave me two copies of a CHESS puzzle, as shown.
[Diagram of 3 x 4 chess board with a black rook in the top left, a black king directly below that, a white pawn directly to the right of that, a white rook directly to the right of that, and a white king at the bottom center.]
White is to move and mate in one.
The solution is for white to move the pawn
forward and promote it to a "Black Knight"
When this puzzle was originally published
the official rules stated that a pawn could
be promoted to any piece, since then they
have been changed to specify that the pawn
must [illegible word crossed out] be promoted to a piece of the
same color.
When Marv spoke to Kate Niemeyer (spelling?) in St.
Paul and said he'd like some of the bookshelf games, she said
she'd send him STOCKS & BONDS and FACTS IN FIVE, even tho
she knew that the contact came thru me, (she is in charge
of publicity in the trade press.) However these games are
for his personal use and won't affect the material used in
the magazine. They have glossies of the gamettes and
will use each seperately, after a general article on the
packaging. I'll try to get AQUIRE and BAZAAR for Marv.
Tom Nelson sent them ODYSSEY and ZODIAC III for a packaging
story and I couldn't kick about that, since they are unique.
Tom did suggest that "T & N" do a story on me. Marv said that
possibly he could get one in the special paper they do
for "Toy Fair" or maybe even in the magazine at about
that time
(cont. on 9/2)
