WEDNESDAY 19 AUGUST
1970 231st day - 134 days to come
Called "Renwal" before going there at lunch. Secretary didn't
know anything about a package for me. Asked her to
have John Donahue call me. He didn't.
Felicia called. Steve Barkoczy was there with 14 PUZZLEs
and would I like to see them. Jogged over at lunch. They
were all variations of 8 cubes that are put together
into a large cube with definite conditions to be met on
the 6 faces. Some of them are as follows:-
[drawing of square labeled "JUNE 1974"]
There are 48 consecutive months on the faces.
Object is to have the 6 faces of the large cube each
show 4 months that are consecutive but with any
arrangement on the face.
[drawing of square with arrow pointing up drawn on face]
The arrows are of 4 (I believe) different colors
and object is to get four of the same color, pointed in
same direction on each face.
Another set had arrows all of same color and
object is 4 in same direction.
[drawing of square completely shaded "black"]
The eight cubes have all the possible combinations of
white and black faces, except all 6 white or all
6 black. Object is either all same color on a face or
the following 6 faces:
[drawing of six squares, each divided into four equal quarters. each is colored differently.]
(This is an easy one.)
[drawing of square with diagonal, shaded half-"black" along left triangle]
Different arrangements of bi-color faces. Object is
to acheive various symmetries on each face: Double
mirror is the hardess: Others are single mirror and
rotational.
Medical symbols with object either all the same
or all different.
Planet symbols with object to get all the same.
Numbers that must add to the same total. (Won't send because of GENIUS BLOCKS.
24 letters of alphabet repeated twice with object to
get two pairs on each face.
(Steve said that each was based on a different
principle for solution.)
Felicia doubts whether they will have much chance
but will sent the first 6 above (exclusive of the 2nd
with the arrows) to X.
I mentioned TRIP and Felicia said that Steve was
in direct communication with X concerning it.
She had pictures of 3 games from a prospective client
and wanted my opinion of them.
MOON SHOT: A raised platform with projectors for launching
objects onto it. Shoot as many as a number spun on
a spinner and score for the area they land in. I pointed
out that it was competitive to TOTTER.
SIXES: Nothing more than PARCHISI.
GAME: Using primitive blowers object is to blow a
ping pong ball into various areas of a board with
an interplanetary motif. Played competitively
