MONDAY 13 JULY 1970
194th day - 171 days to come
Ran off repros of NAPOLI.
To Felicia's. Brought TANGLED WEB. Didn't like it as much as
my other puzzles.
Brought her the 5 Report Sheets and a copy of AGOG (for $4)
for her to give to her friend Sue.
We discussed the 10 year reduction in the SEARCH royalty 3M
proposes. She thinks we should call their bluff and refuse
it. We agreed to stall as long as possible before committing
ourselves either way.
She was nervous about not getting her BALI royalty from S & R yet.
She called and they told her it was doing fine.
Later she called to remind me about INDIAN CHESS. I told her
I'd write the rules next weekend.
Brian Blake called while I was out. Called him but he had
left.
Rcd. the book FOUR BY FOUR.
Rcd. a card from Martin Gardner telling me of a book MUDCRACKY
put out for $1.50 by [bracket] NEO PRESS
Box 525
Ann Arbor, Mich. 48107
It discusses variants on a Hex game played on [triangle/different] fields.
They say they will be putting out more books on games.
Rcd. a letter from Tom Atwater, in answer to my note to
him. Jim Rockwell has been moved upstairs and Hank Lamb
is now in charge of new product. I was intending
to call Rockwell from the office to tell him about the
goof in the packaging. When the letter came BB called and
I didn't contact Rockwell.
In evening called Tom and told him of the goof. He
said that Alex was also very dissatisfied with CASTLE (the
way they misspelled it among other things) and that Alex
sent an 8-page letter. Tom also wrote and will write about my
complaint too. He intends to go there in a few weeks.
In the meantime he thinks I should get moving on any-
thing I want to show. He may be in N.Y. the end of next
week and I'll try to have COUNTERPOINT ready for him by then.
If he doesn't come in I'll send him the rules for him [crossout] to
familiarize himself with and then I'll send the equiptment to
"Stancraft" myself.
Looked at COUNTERPOINT and think I can fit it on a wooden
board of Stancraft size if I use large size GO stones
for the design section and for marking the [illegible crossout] staked-
out colors and small size for the score markers. Will have
to buy some stones and try painting them.
Told Tom of "Hallmark" exhibit. He asked if "Hallmark"
was going into games & I avoided the question.
