WEDNESDAY 9 JULY 1970
189th day - 176 days to come
Felicia called. She decided that she doesn't want to go to the press
conference for the game exhibit @ "Hallmark". But she would like me
to check on whether BALI will be included.
Called Jane Jordan. Made date for tomorrow afternoon about 4:30
or a little later. Will bring TAM-BIT, TAKE FIVE, and FOCUS
to show her.
Working on packaging of TANGLED WEB in evening, with Dana's help
in covering the box top.
Claude called at work. Wanted to see me for a few minutes. With
all the cards and leaving early tomorrow, decided I'd better not.
Felicia, when she called, said that she rcd. a carbon of Jim Kraus' letter of 7/3.
Called Arthur. Couldn't get him to come here during his vacation.
Made a date for Tuesday after next to possibly go to the
"Skunk Works". Later realized that this is the same date
as the Press Conference.
(cont. from 7/9) [7/9]
To "Bloomingdale's". Saw SMESS (P.) There is a latticed board
with arrows in each space pointing in various combinations
of the 8 directions. Each player has three types of pcs.
One can move as a Queen CHESS Queen in the direction of any
of the arrows in its starting space. One can move one
space in the direction of an arrow. The third, the King,
can also move one space in the direction of an arrow.
Replacement capture. Win by capturing opponent's King. (Fairly complete).
CARAPACE (Plan B). A board with odd shaped rectangular spaces.
The offensive player has 4 pcs., which can't be captured by
a replacement (I believe). The offensive player can move as
many of his pcs. as he wishes on a turn but count in [is]
kept of the moves. Defensive player tries to avoid capture
as long as possible. He cannot pass over a colored space
if an offensive pc. is on a space of that color. There are
some spaces with numbers on them which add to the offensive
count when passed over. Players alternate playing
the two sides. (Rough idea.)
They had good supplies of ACQUIRE, MONAD, BAZAAR, & AGOG.
Rcd. another copy of TEMPO, ODD OR EVEN, and INTERPLAY.
Rcd. the PLAYTHINGS directory.
Jim Dunnigan sent me folder on AGOG. The one I already
