TUESDAY 16 JUNE
1970 167th day - 198 days to come
Felicia called. She has been getting almost daily calls and letters
from X. Some of the info:-
They are sending me option contracts (with the usual $250 advance)
for WINDOW PAINS and THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS.
The following games have passed the 2nd screening and they are
keeping them for further study:- DIGIT, SPELLBINDER, TRIP, CUBITS,
PENTHOUSE, WHAT'S IT WORTH TO YOU?, ANOTHER, COUNTER INTELLIGENCE.
They asked about the contract with "3M" and she told them that
only Will Erickson has liked it. I pointed out that they had said that they
already had a word game (and it is really 2). She was quite nasty
and said that if I wanted to handle the business she'll stop. Later
she came out with what was bothering her. Someone, and she
wouldn't say who, had told her that Bernice thinks she takes too
big a cut. I assured her it wasn't so and she said that after
receiving our card from Switzerland she felt better.
Went there at lunchtime and talked everything out. She
agrees that when I am approached by someone to make up specific
games, as with "Stancraft," there is no reason why she
should object. I repeated my offer of 10% on all games I place
myself, without another agent. And, of course, there is no question
about her 25% on the things she sells. It was a good discussion
that cleared the air.
Further from X. DATA, DYNAMITE, MARLBORO COUNTRY, FACTOR,
UGLY CUBES, and COMBAT PATROL are coming back.
Bob Edwards told her in a letter that when X finally decides
to go into games, she will be the first to know.
X wants to see PITFALL and QUEST again. The former
is with IMPACT and they want to hold on to it. The inventor
of the latter is now in California.
They want to see LIVE WIRE again but with new rules.
She is sure that Rudy Lopez would split with me to have me
write them. I suggested 25% and she said 50%, which I
think is excessive.
X is also interested in INDIAN CHESS with new
rules. She'll check with its inventor to see if he'd be interested
in my doing them for a piece of the royalties.
She heard that on 7/21 X was going to have a big
press party concerning games. She wrote to Jim Goldsberry
telling him that her spies had found about about this party,
and that I should be invited since I know about games
than anyone.
X finally found Connor's original model for RUSTLERS
and are returning it.
She was waiting for Marge Naramore to bring her copies of
DIRTY WATER and SMOG. X wants to see the latter but she'll
give me the former.
Felicia had a letter from Jim Kraus dated June 5, 1970 which went in
part:-
SEARCH:- In your May 28th letter, you mentioned that I would send
