TUESDAY 9 JUNE
1970 160th day - 205 days to come
To "Franz Carl Weber." Looked at the following:-
SCARABEO - which is the Italian name for SCRABBLE. (An expensive version selling for 36 Swiss Francs.)
IL GIOCO DE 1000 - A quiz game originally put out by M.B. with metal balls dropping into slots. (I am pretty sure I have something on this a few years ago but can't remember the name.)
TRAFFICO - Race game with money. Probably own gas stations & collect from landers. Move by rolling a ball (instead of dice). Very elaborate board. (Didn't look at rules - in Italian.)
TOMBOLINA - Children's game of drawing out shapes & fitting them in holes.
POSI-NEGA - Ravensburg children's game with transparencies in two colors.
To Innovazione Dept. Store saw -
GIOCO DELL ORO NERO (Game of Black Gold) - This is similar to GUSHER but seemed to have more play value. There were cards which could cause losses to owners of wells. When a player got 5 producing wells he became a company. Didn't get the details of what this entailed. The setup of the wells was accomplished by having a lower grid of 12 x 14 holes. 30 marbles were provided for placing at random (how?) on these holes. The upper cardboard had small holes above each of the lower spaces. The wells were drilled though these. They were arranged in tracts of 6 holes each. (Would have liked to have bought it but it was very bulky. Had hopes of finding it in Rome and having it sent.)
VENTO FORZA 6 (Wind Force 6) - Looked something like the board for TURNO in the book from Bruxelles. 333 JEUX D'INTERIEUR. But the Italian game is a naval battle and the latter is a land battle. (Just glanced at the rules.)
Bought CARGO.
Wrote postcards to the following "game" people.
Dear Donald (L. Miller)
Getting a number of games ready before this trip kept
me jumping - until 5 minutes before we left for the airport.
Am relaxing a little - except for researching the game stores
and worrying about accumulating weight and dwindling finances.
Will write in greater length when I get back. I would
like to contribute material to your publications. Afraid that
I don't have much more on RITHMOMACHY, but I'll look the
first moment I find.
Please pardon the haste. Regards,
Dear Bob (Engel),
Please pardon my delay in answering your very welcome
