TUESDAY 5 MAY
Rogation Day 1970 125th day - 240 days to come
Call from Felicia. Letter from Tom Burger at Whitman. Bob
Engel has resigned and gone to a General Mills subsiduary-
not Parker. New chiefs are Tom Mason & Paul Brown (in that order)
They are concentrating on games & activities under $3, but think
that FOCUS definitely has a place in their line.
Felicia didn't read all of the letter but did mention that FLINGERS
is still very hot.
He sent her the rules for PEEKO. He said they thought it was a
good game and tried two different editions, but it didn't sell.
Impact informed Felicia that Braniff is with a game. Felicia doesn't
think it is GO SEE since she has that back. I reminded her that
Jim Goldsberry wanted to see it, but she said he had told her not to send
it.
UGLY CUBES was probably lost by X. Felicia feels that she is re-
sponsible to the client.
To lunch with Henry Pierson (see 4/30). His client's game is
played with pegs on a board and apparantly is more a type
of equipment that can be used for many GAMEs. He didn't give
me any details & I didn't push him. I gave him general info
about royalty rates, etc.
Thought of two ideas for SEARCH themes. One - guns, daggers,
& bombs as coding devices for a "cloak & dagger" agency. One
file is stolen.
Other - sun ([circle shape]), star ([star shape]), and moon ([crescent moon shape]). No story line, but players
ask for the "sign of the blue sun", the "sign of the triple star,"
the "sign of the double red", etc.
Thought of giving one or two SOLITAIREs plus a review of
SOLO BALL for my next S & T column.
Mickey Mackay called and asked if I would mind changing our
date till tomorrow sot hat she can met with an editor she has been
trying to meet with for some time. Sure.
Rcd. a letter from "Sandro Colombo" of Rizzoli Bookstore. They haven't
rcd. the Librex catalog I asked for, but they have rcd. a 3-volume
ENCICLOPEDIA DEI GIOCHI for $67.25.
Called Tom Atwater in Concord, for at least a half hour.
He asked me about COUNTERPOINT & I said that since I hadn't
heard from him I assumed .. that he wasn't interested. He said it
would be a good bet for "Stancraft." Rockwell will be in for
stationery show and maybe we will show it to him.
TEMPO, ODD OR EVEN, and INTERPLAY are definitely ready for the
Stationery Show. "Stancraft" is doing the best of any of the "Brown
& Bigelow" (spelling?) subsidiaries. However they were supposed to set up
their own sales force and this was vetoed. Tom thinks that this will
