FRIDAY 27 FEBRUARY
1970 58th day - 307 days to come
To Hilton Hotel to meet with Tom Atwater and Alex Randolph. Had
breakfast with them. Saw:-
UP & DOWN :- Players each have 4 tokens which are
[diagram of three concentric squares, 4 vertical white circles to left, 4 vertical black circles to right]
started as shown. The board is three dimension-
al. Players in turn throw 2 dice and with an
odd can move 1 or 3 of his men up (or down) one
step. With an even 2 or 4. When a man is
left completely isolated on a step it is re-
moved. Object is to get two of your men alone on the top
step. It is possible for neither player to win. (Rough idea.)
Alex thought he had seen this in a book, possibly in
Bell's BOARD & TABLE GAMES FROM MANY CIVILIZATIONS. (I checked later and
didn't find anything on it.) (It is by another client of Tom's.)
Took rules for:-
OFF COURSE (Alex')
TOUR (Alex') - Stancraft liked it.
DAEDALUS (Alex')
GOOD KNIGHT (Alex') - 3M liked it.
TOPOLOTOY (Alex') - A creative toy and puzzle, not a game.
FISH-FISH (A Japanese friend of Alex did this)
TOP-O-LOGIC (Cambridge Games) } These were spares - others I have to return.
NO WAY (Cambridge Games)
Saw a PUZZLE consisting of interlocking square rods
which pack together. (By another client.)
Two fellows from Hasbro came and I left as Alex started to
show them his ROUND THE CLOCK.
Before this I showed them COUNTERPOINT. They seemed to like
it but Tom won't show it to Hank Simmons until I have an at-
tractive model. I told Tom that I wanted to get together and
discuss business with him.
Stopped off and picked up a catalog for the "International Toy Fair"
but couldn't register.
To Gary & Reidel. Showed the shorter one my reviews and
AGOG. He said he would buy a copy. I said I'd give
him one and he said he'd give me a game. I'll bring it
to him after Toy Fair.
Looked at COOP-A-LOOP (see ad clip). The picture on the
ad clip shows the designer. The game has the projections
on a raised platform. Under this is another level with
holes, one under each peg. There are 4 marbles each of
4 colors. These are shaken up so that they come to
rest at random. Object is for a player to connect the
pegs above his four marbles. In turn throw a die and con-
nect as many pegs as the number thrown. (Rough idea.)
HEX O GRAM:- There are 48 tiles shaped as shown:- All combin-
[diagram of inverted triangle segmented into three pieces]
ations of numbers 1 to 5 and the rest triple blanks, which
are wild. Players take a hand as in DOMINOS, the number
depending on the number of players. Adjoining sides must
match both numbers. Object is to complete one, two, or three
